Gerald J. Lange Jr., known by his stage name, BJ Lange (born February 27, 1980) is an American actor, comedian, TV host, emcee, producer, writer, and a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Military Service
In 2006, while learning how to fly, in St. Charles, Missouri, Lange's interest in serving led him to join the Civil Air Patrol. Today Lange is an ambassador and mentor with the Air Force Wounded Warrior Program (AFW2), where he plays a key role in supporting fellow veterans. He did applied improv comedy workshops as part of the Wellness and Resiliency Program, using humor and performance techniques to help wounded, ill, and injured service members and their caregivers find healing, connection, and strength through play.[1] He served as an aerospace medical technician in the United States Air Force Reserve.[2] His personal hardships through illness and recovery has become a part of his advocacy work with cancer survivors and disabled veterans with PTSD.[3]
Career
With a background in improvisational theater, Lange honed his craft in comedy institutions across the country. Lange has spent years training in the art of improv. He developed his skills through extensive programs at The Second City, where he completed the conservatory, long form, and musical improvisation programs. He was then hired to teach at The Second City.[4] Lange's on-screen presence has landed him appearances on network shows such as General Hospital,[5] MTV, Comedy Central, and Jimmy Kimmel Live.[6]
BJ Lange did a live performance at the Simon dTour Live! event as an entertainer for ABC Family.[7] Lange made appearances on the Dr. Phil Show as well as Grey's Anatomy, went on the road as emcee with Disney star Selena Gomez for the Monte Carlo movie tour, and he became a shoutcaster for the World Series of Video Games on CBS Sports.[8] He is a member of SAG-AFTRA and he serves on SAG-AFTRA committees.[9] In 2025, he co-hosted the Military & Veterans Entertainment Awards at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.[10]
BJ Lange was a strike captain for SAG-AFTRA.[11] BJ Lange is a board member of the Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation.[12]
