Bálint Szécsényi (Budapest, August 24 1974 - ) Hungarian economist, Chairman and Co-owner of Equilor Investment Ltd.[1], former Vice Chairman of the Budapest Stock Exchange.[2]

Career

  • After graduating from of Berzsenyi Dániel High School, where he participated in special elective mathematics courses, he continued his studies at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (now Budapest Corvinus University). As a first-year student, he realized he wanted to study finance and investment, and graduated in 1999 with a degree in finance and business valuation.
  • He started his career as a futures trader at Bankár Befektetési Rt. and later worked as a foreign exchange trader at Procent Befektetési Rt.
  • In 2000, he joined Equilor Investment Ltd., where he started as a partner in the Corporate Finance division. From 2002, he served as a director, and from 2005, he was a member of the board and CEO of Equilor Investment Ltd. Since 2010, he has held the position of CEO. Following the passing of András Gereben (†) in 2022, he also assumed the role of chairman of the board.
  • Founded in 1990, Equilor Investment Ltd. is the oldest independent Hungarian investment service provider.[3] Under the management of Bálint Szécsényi and András Gereben, Equilor Investment has led the IPO of the shares and bonds of several companies and won several professional awards, including the Budapest Stock Exchange (BSE) Professional Jury's Choice Award. In recent years the Equilor analysis team also received the "Investment Service Provider of the Year" (2015, 2021)[4], "Team of the Year" (2010) and "CSO of the Year" (2011) awards from the Világgazdaság analyst news outlet.[5]
  • Under the leadership of Bálint Szécsényi and András Gereben, Equilor Investment Ltd.'s revenue grew from HUF 350 million to HUF 4.2 billion by 2022, and assets under management increased from HUF 34 billion to HUF 562 billion. Equilor has been a member of the Budapest Stock Exchange since 1990 and a full member of the Warsaw Stock Exchange since 2009 and the Prague Stock Exchange since 2010. In 2012, together with Zsolt Pillár, they founded Equilor Fund Management Ltd., which manages more than 250 billion in securities, real estate and private equity funds, and has been operating as a separate company from Equilor Investment Ltd. since 2022.
  • In addition, Equilor Investment Ltd. is the sole member of the Budapest Stock Exchange's commodities section and supports the Budapest Stock Exchange in the development of the domestic commodities market.[6]
  • Between 2011 and 2015, Bálint Szécsényi also held the position of Vice President of the Budapest Stock Exchange:[7] during this time, the exchange introduced the Xetra trading system to the domestic stock market,[8] which significantly contributed to the international development of the Hungarian capital market. At his initiative, a large-scale auction of modern relics of the local capital market was organized on the 150th anniversary of the exchange's founding,[9] and the entire proceeds from this event were dedicated to supporting education aimed at advancing financial culture in Hungary.
  • During his time as Vice President, he offered his full remuneration to the Corvinus University Corporate Finance Department Foundation, which, among other initiatives, supported scholarships for disadvantaged university students.
  • Bálint Szécsényi holds a stock exchange exam, a futures exam and an MMTS exam.
  • In addition to Hungarian, he speaks English, Italian and German.
