Azad Mehdi (pen name, birth name is Fida Hussain) was born on 30 April 1959 in Mohalla Sang Tarash, Shahdara Town, Lahore. His father's name was Manzoor Hussain Jarrah, who was a famous jarrah of Shahdara, but he followed his father's profession not adopted. After studying up to primary, his father learned surgery. Father died in 2008. Mother's name was Nawab Bibi who passed away in 2000.Grandfather Ali Muhammad, Darwish Manish Aadmi and Hafiz of Heer Waris Shah.Azad Mahdi had 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Among the brothers, Azad Mehdi was the eldest and one sister was older than him. He was fond of Urdu literature since his childhood. He used to read digests from the aana library.According to belief, they are Twelvers.

Education

Mehdi received his primary education from Government Primary School, Shahdara Town. He passed his matriculation examination in 1975 from Government M.P.E. High School, Shahdara Town. Passed BA from Islamia College Civil Lines in 1981 with subjects History and civics.

Jobs

After BA, started working in Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Lahore on 30-March-1983 and retried as a Superintendent of Examinations Cell on 29-April-2019. Passed m.a Urdu from Private university. Among his teachers were Sohrat Bukhari and Dr. Ahraz Naqvi.

Literary life

Mehdi started his literary life with poetry and did a lot of love to nurture it, but neither love nor poetry flourished. In this regard, one incident of his is very important that when he was B.A. in Islamia College. When he was a student, he showed his poetry to Shohrat Bukhari, who was the principal of the college at that time. It was winter and he was basking in the sun with a chair outside. He said, "Put it on the table inside and I will see." The next day, Azad Mahdi went to take the revised ghazals, Shohrat Bukhari said that it is still very rough and work hard. There are ghazals inside, take them. After saying this, they ran away from there.Then he started writing fiction and wrote the first fiction in 1987 under the name of Haram-e-Aman, which was published in Sadaqat newspaper. Four novels have been written. Fictions are written in less number. This literature includes Munshi Premchand, Balzac, Voltaire, Fyodor Dostoyevsky and O'Henry.

Mehdi lives in Mohalla Sing Tarash, Shahdara Town, Lahore. He has had two sons and three daughters. One daughter died. The novel titled 'Peru' is in the background of this.
