Early Life

Ayrosh was born in Embu on December 13, 1991[1]. He attended primary school in Maragua and joined Kenyatta University for a degree in Finance and Economics.[2].

Career

Ayrosh was approached by the music school Sauti Academy to enroll in 2013 and was offered a scholarship. He primarily writes and sings his music in Kikuyu, English and Kiswahili languages and draws on a wide range of influences including Mugithi, Reggae, Afrobeat, Rhumba and R&B. He cites Bob Marley, Joseph Kamaru, Oliver Mtukudzi, Fela Kuti among his influences.

When legendary Kenyan DJ, DJ Pinye launched his Dreams 2 Beats project in 2016, he announced Ayrosh as one of his proteges[5]. Ayrosh released his first single Wendo in 2016 and his second single "Shuga Mami" in 2017 [6]. In 2018 he released two singles Maheni and Love, Respect, Repeat. That same year in May 2018, he featured in a song by Dandora Music titled Dangerous Love [7] and he was an opening act for Eric Wainaina as he released his fourth studio album Dreams in Stereo.[8]

On 14th June 2019, he released his 7 track afro-house inspired EP titled Murasta.[9] He is also a featured artist in Mutoriah's album Dive In which was released on June 22, 2019 [10].

To compliment his music, Ayrosh curates an event titled Folk Fusion [11] as an avenue for folk artist, such as himself, to collaborate and showcase their art and to foster pride in African art, language and music. The first edition of the event was held in October 2017 and there have been four editions so far [1].
