Known forFounding Altadena Girls

Avery Colvert (born 2010) is an American philanthropist and the founder of Altadena Girls, a charitable organization dedicated to supporting teenage girls affected by natural disasters. She gained national recognition for her efforts following the Eaton Fire in Los Angeles County, California, in early 2025.

Early Life

Avery Colvert was born in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2010. In March of 2021, her family experienced the loss of their home due to a flash flood (https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/29/us/nashville-flooding-monday/index.html), which influenced Colvert's empathy towards disaster victims. In August of 2021, she, her mother, step-father, and younger brother relocated to Altadena, California. Prior to the Eaton Fire, Colvert and her family moved to nearby Old Town Pasadena, California, but she maintained strong ties to the Altadena community through school and social activities.

Altadena Girls

In January 2025, the Eaton Fire devastated parts of Los Angeles County, destroying numerous homes and properties, including Colvert's school. Motivated by the loss experienced by her peers, Colvert founded Altadena Girls to provide essential items such as clothing, beauty products, and personal care items to teenage girls affected by the fires. The unique presentation of the donation center as a completely free department store removed the stigma and shame of receiving help and began her campaign of 'charity with dignity', which she believes is the future of charitable giving. Altadena Girls was launched on January 10th, 2025 at Small Green Door, a creative studio in Boyle Heights, CA. Altadena Girls went viral overnight after its first two posts on Instagram.

Partnerships and Collaborations

The initiative received widespread support, including early endorsements from celebrities like Paris Hilton, Charli XCX, Mindy Kaling, Max Greenfield, and Meghan Markle. Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, personally volunteered at the relief center, delivering donations and assisting affected girls as a personal stylist. Within the organization's first 6 weeks, other brands and celebrities such as Fabletics, Alice and Olivia, Rare Beauty, Nicole Ritchie, Kerry Washington, and Becky G all collaborated or launched campaigns to benefit the Altadena Girls.

The Archewell Foundation, founded by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, played a significant role in supporting Altadena Girls, providing resources and amplifying the organization's reach.

Altadena Girls has collaborated with several organizations to enhance its impact. Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles partnered with the charity to provide community-building activities for the affected teens. The organization also received support from the Hollywood Beauty Awards, which facilitated donations of beauty and personal care products.

In March 2025, Altadena Girls signed a lease on a physical location in Old Town Pasadena with the help of Hunter Brown of JLL (https://www.costar.com/article/549071240/teens-los-angeles-wildfire-charity-expands-with-help-from-global-brokerage). The new center is slated to open in April 2025 and will feature a community center offering mental, social, and physical health facilities, with partnerships and support from Alo Yoga, Cisco Home, Urban Outfitters and many other national brands and organizations.
