Aurèle Tobelem (Hebrew: אוראל טובעלם; born 25 February 2003) is a British-French student, public commentator, and political activist of Moroccan Sephardi Jewish descent. He is known for his outspoken views on antisemitism in higher education and for his appearances on national media outlets including GB News.

Early Life and Background

Tobelem was born in Paris, France, into a British-French Sephardi Jewish family originally from Morocco. His great-grandfather, Alberto Berdugo, served as Principal Private Secretary to the Pasha of Marrakesh, Thami El-Glaoui, from 1943 to 1955. Following the rise of Arab nationalist forces in Morocco, Berdugo was persecuted and fled the country as a political refugee, resettling in France.[1]

His father is a venture investor, and his mother, a retired teacher of French and Latin, spent much of her early career working in West Africa educating schoolchildren before returning to Europe to raise a family. His Great-grandfather, Alberto Berdugo, as well as his great-uncle were Hazzānim in Tangier, Morocco. Additionally, he has two older siblings.

Education

Tobelem is currently completing his undergraduate studies at King’s College London, specializing in Colonial North African history, with graduation expected in mid-2025.

Public Engagement and Media Appearances

Tobelem gained national attention in the UK after receiving death threats for inviting a controversial speaker to an on-campus event, sparking a wider public debate on freedom of expression and antisemitism within British universities.

He has since appeared on GB News, including a segment with Nigel Farage, where he criticized university administrators for their handling of antisemitic incidents[2]. He has also spoken at the European Jewish Association conference in Poland, where he alleged that King’s College London had employed individuals with histories of disseminating terrorist propaganda.[3][4]

Political Views

Tobelem is a supporter of the Abraham Accords, as well as favoring Moroccan Sovereignty over Western Sahara. Additionally, he is notably anti-Muslim Brotherhood, and strong supporter of the Moroccan Monarchy, as well as a promoter of Tuareg/Berber rights and autonomy. He is a supporter of the British Conservative Party. He often reffers to himself as "Unapologetically Zionist".

Personal life

Tobelem is of British-French nationality and Moroccan Sephardi Jewish descent. He speaks English and French fluently, and has studied Hebrew, Arabic, and Spanish. He has allegedly been Banned from the nation of Lebanon, according to his Instagram bio. He currently works as a researcher for the Forum for Foreign Relations, a writer for various publications and as Chief Operating officer for Realis Finance.
