Ataah King (born June 17, 1996 as Ataah Abaiko Azah) is a New York-based Contemporary Hip Hop musician who was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia.[1] Ataah released his debut single "Favorite Rapper," in 2015, through FlapJack Entertainment Music Publisher[2] and TuneCore. The single attracted over 500,000 streams on Spotify before being taken down by the rapper and his team in 2018, after officially signing with AWAL and The Orchard, subsidiaries of Sony Music Entertainment.[3]

Musical career

During his elementary years while residing in Mannheim, Germany, Ataah began his career in music. His foray into the world of entertainment commenced with early exploits in rap, collaborating with fellow students on MySpace. An innovator even then, Ataah frequently shared voicemails showcasing his renditions of popular hits with friends, exhibiting his burgeoning talent.

Between 2007 and 2009, while situated in Virginia, Ataah began to expand his musical network, leveraging platforms like ReverbNation[4] to connect with like-minded musicians. Eager to refine his craft, he turned to YouTube,[5] learning mixing techniques and utilizing the platform to showcase creative skits produced with his friends and cousins.

Relocating to South Korea in 2010, Ataah transitioned from MySpace to SoundCloud,[6] a pivotal move that marked an experimental phase in his career. Here, he released a series of singles, honing his skills and further refining his unique sound.

During his high school years, Ataah inked a record deal with Tate Music Group, a record label based in Oklahoma. The partnership led to the distribution of a singular album, exposing Ataah to the nuances of the industry and launching his presence on streaming platforms.

Collaborating with the Miami-based music publisher FlapJack, Ataah introduced a series of mix tapes to his audience, significantly amplifying his reach. This phase garnered a substantial monthly listenership of over 50,000 on Spotify and amassed hundreds of thousands of streams across various music platforms. However, these mix tapes were later removed from streaming services.

In 2018, Ataah took a significant step in his career by joining Sony Music through AWAL and The Orchard, subsidiaries of the media conglomerate. Following this move, he temporarily withdrew his music from streaming platforms, taking a hiatus with the intention of returning to the scene with a fresh perspective.

In 2022, while en route to his parents home in New York for Thanksgiving, Ataah was arrested and assaulted by Carroll County police officers, resulting in a further delay to Ataah's full-time return to music.[7]

In 2023, Ataah resurfaced by reintroducing alternative versions of one of his most sought-after projects, "Senioritis," reigniting his presence on platforms along with the release of "Electronic Beats (Pack 1)" — an instrumental album. With a renewed passion, he's been exploring new flows and sounds on SoundCloud, signaling his forthcoming full-time return to the music scene.[1]
