Askar Akhmetuly Musinov (Kazakh: Асқар Ахметұлы Мусинов; born 11 April 1961) is a Kazakh diplomat, who is currently serving as Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security. He previously served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.
Biography
He graduated from Leningrad State University, named after A. A. Zhdanov with a degree in Oriental studies and philology in 1984.[1] After graduation, he started his career serving as military translator in Libya (1984–1987).
- From 1987 to 1991 he served as the Second, and then First secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kazakh SSR.[2]
- From 1991 to 1992 he worked as the Second secretary of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Saudi Arabia.[3]
- After holding various senior positions in the Office of the President and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan between 1993 and 1997, he worked as Chief of Protocol of the President of Kazakhstan from 1997 to 1999.
- He then served as Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Egypt (1999–2002) and Saudi Arabia (2002–2006).
- From 2006 to 2013 he served as Ambassador of Kazakhstan to UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and South Africa.
- In June 2013, he was appointed Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and then in July 2014, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.[4]
- Since 2016, he served as Head of the Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit at the General Secretariat of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.[5]
- On May 5, 2018, at the 45th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Dhaka, he was elected as the Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation for Science and Technology.[6]
- By the decision of the 6th General Assembly of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), held in Doha on 3 October 2023, he was elected as Director General of IOFS, as of 1 January 2024.[7]
