Ashley Griffin is an American Broadway Playwright and Actress[1]. She has also appeared on television and in films, and written Young Adult novels.
Writing
As a writer she's best known for the play Trial, which was directed by Lori Petty in 2018[2] [3], for which they both received the WellLife Network Award for their work and the play's advocacy impact.[4]. The piece also had early development with Manhattan Theatre Club.
Her play The Opposite of Love premiered off-Broadway at The Royal Family Performing Arts Space in Manhattan in 2024; she starred in the two-hander, opposite Danny Gardner.[5]
She created Forever Deadward: The Vampire Musical Parody, a spoof of the Twilight books , which premiered at New World Stages in New York in 2012, had a production at York Theatre Company in 2014, and then had a reunion concert at 54 Below in 2018.
Some of her other plays include:
- ‘’Snow’’ which had a developmental reading at Playwrights Horizons, a workshop in New York which received a New York Independent Theater Awards Nomination for best new play, and the play was a semi finalist for the Shakespeare's New Contemporaries award from the American Shakespeare Center.
- Looking For Wonderland, a physical comedy deconstruction of Lewis Carroll’s classic Alice stories, which was a semifinalist for the Eugene O'Neill Festival and under consideration by The Public Theater, co-written with Cirque du Soleil creator/star Joel Jeske, with director Gabriel Barre attached.
- Lyra: A Dark Fairy Tale, a circus adaptation of The Little Mermaid, which had a concert at 54 Below.
She also has written two Young Adult Fantasy novels, The Spindle[6] , a retelling of Sleeping Beauty from the point of view of the wicked fairy, and Blank Paige, about literary characters in an ethereal bookstore waiting for a writer to claim them.[7]
She’s done some journalistic and editorial work for American Theatre Magazine[8] and OnStage Blog. [9]
Acting
She has also appeared in film and television projects such as Homeland, The Deuce, Alias, American Dreams, The Greatest Showman, and more. She has also worked extensively onstage in New York Theatre, including singing in the show Rocktopia as well as a concert of Wicked, in which she performed "For Good". She has performed at Lincoln Center, The Gershwin Theatre, The Public Theater, A.R.T. and has developed work at Manhattan Theater Club and La MaMa.
She trained at New York University Tisch School of the Arts and the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. She is also an alumnus of Westside Ballet.[10]
