Arthur Kuris (April 18, 1913 – January 22, 2000)[1] was an American pioneer in the field of ultrasonics and the inventor of the cavitron.

Early life

Arthur Kuris was born in Odessa, Russia, in 1913. In 1922, he immigrated with his father, mother and 4 siblings to New York City through Ellis Island. He attended Townsend Harris High School and in 1935 graduated from City College of New York with a BS in Psychology. Arthur married his beloved with Henrietta in 1939. Mr Kuris was a mathematics teacher who developed pioneering techniques for cutting and drilling gemstones using emerging ultrasonic technology. A self-taught physicist in applied ultrasonics, he founded and was President of Cavitron Equipment Corporation in the 1950's with Dr. William Balamuth. To this day the Cavitron name is carried by Dentsply.

Ultrasonics and the Invention of the Cavitron

A pioneer in the field of ultrasonics, Arthur Kuris was a self-taught physicist in applied ultrasonics. He founded and was President of Cavitron Equipment Corporation in the 1950's with Dr. William Balamuth. To this day the Cavitron name is carried by Dentsply. His achievements were featured in Life Magazine November 3, 1952.

After the sale of Cavitron, Mr. Kuris became President of Ultrasonic Systems, Inc.

Later life

Kuris and his wife, retired to Hollywood, Florida, until his death at the age of 86.
