Arina Aamir (born 23 June 2005) is a Norwegian politician, author, and podcast host. She is a member of the Conservative Party (Høyre) and, in 2023, became the youngest person ever elected to the Oslo City Council at age 18.[1]

Early life and education

Aamir was born in Oslo and raised in the Stovner district.[2] She published her first book at age 12, describing her experiences as a young Muslim in Norway.[3] In January 2025 she began studying law at the University of Oslo.[4]

Political career

At age 15, Aamir debated Lars Thorsen, leader of the SIAN organization, on live TV2 regarding Qur’an burning.[5] Later in 2020 she took part in Plan International Norway’s Girls Takeover campaign and acted as Development Minister for a day.[6]

In 2023 she was elected to Oslo City Council, becoming its youngest ever member.[7] She has spoken publicly about youth crime, school quality, and social control among young people.[8][9]

In 2024 she announced candidacy for the Conservative Party’s Oslo list ahead of the 2025 parliamentary election.[10]

Podcast and media work

In May 2025 Aamir and businessman Christian Ringnes launched the political podcast Rett på.[11]

Recognition

In 2022, Dagens Næringsliv and D2 listed Aamir among their “30 under 30” young leaders.[12]

Personal life

Aamir is the daughter of Afshan Rafiq, who was a Member of Parliament for the Conservative Party from 2001 to 2005.[13] She is of Pakistani descent and identifies as Muslim.[14]
