Ari Katcher is an American writer, producer, and director.[1] He co-created and directed all episodes of the Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show documentary series for HBO. [2][3][4] He also directed Jerrod Carmichael’s 2025 HBO comedy special Don't Be Gay. [5]Ari co-wrote the feature On the Count of Three which premiered at Sundance in 2021, where he won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award. [6] On the TV side, Ari co-created and executive produced Hulu’s award winning show Ramy. [7] Prior to that he co-created NBC’s The Carmichael Show. [8] He is currently the co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer of I'm Glad My Mom Died starring Jennifer Aniston for Apple TV.[9][10]

Early life and education

Ari grew up in Anchorage, Alaska, where he graduated from West High School. He went to Portland State University, before pursuing a career in stand-up.[11] Ari is formerly a member of the American rock band, The Lives of Famous Men. [12]

Career

Ari first met future collaborator Ramy Youssef on the stand-up scene while temporarily living in New York.[11] After moving back to LA and reconnecting with Youssef, the idea for the show Ramy was born through a series of conversations between Katcher, Youssef, and Katcher's longtime friend and collaborator, Ryan Welch. [11] Ari has also been a longtime creative partner to comedian Jerrod Carmichael. They have collaborated on several projects, including The Carmichael Show, On the Count of Three, and The Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show. [2] Ari is currently co-writing, executive producing, and show running an adaptation of Jennette McCurdy's memoir, I'm Glad My Mom Died, starring Jennifer Aniston, for Apple TV+. [13]
