Areeba Tirmizi (born Syeda Areeba Ahmad Tirmizi, on July 21 1998) is a Pakistani actress who works primarily in Urdu television and films. Tirmizi started her acting career when she first landed a role as 'Farrah - The Fairy' in theatrical play She Kills Monsters, which is a drama-comedy play written by Qui Nguyen. During her performances at Biddeford City Theatre, she received huge applauses by the audience for her comic-timing and portrayal of the character. She then continued to do various Broadway performances during her time in the United States. At that time, she was an undergraduate at the University of New England where she studied Medical Biology. After she returned to Pakistan, Tirmizi continued her pursuit of education. After moving back, she was contacted by a talent-agency in Lahore for modeling. She made her acting debut in Pakistan as the lawyer in Aur Life's Order Disorder which was a critically acclaimed and brought her to the limelight. Tirmizi was then casted as a female-lead in IRK Film's Siyaah Series' two anthology stories, Bahar Bano and Lutrum Putrum for Green Entertainment. She received critical acclaim for her role as Sidra opposite Osman Khalid Butt in Lutrum Putrum. Something Haute cited her performance as 'poignant and hilarious'. Along with that, Tirmizi also played the role of Shehnaz in 'Karsaaz', a victim of acid abuse and vigilante protecting women from abuse.

She has also acted in films including 'Border Paar Pyaar' and 'Jabar', which is inspired by the suicide of an Indian woman named Ayesha who video tapped herself before taking her life. Tirmizi says Jabar is a story quite close to her heart. Her recent dramas include Nauroz on Green Entertainment, Jindo on Green Entertainment and Neem on Hum TV, She was also the lead in Dekho Originals' web-series, 'VEERAYS' in which she acted alongside her childhood friend Dania Adil. Areeba Tirmizi is among the few actors who, very early on in their career, have worked with the Pakistani Television Industry's credible and successful directors including Ahsan Rahim, Shehzad Kashmiri, Nadeem Siddique, Anjum Shehzad, and Iqbal Hussain.

She also hosted a morning show, 'Subh ki Soch' on ABN News.

Tirmizi also went viral for her episode of Podcastic, in which she played the role of a rich capitalist which was a comedy-sattire and got 15 million views overnight. Her upcoming projects include, Aur Digital's Fatima Jinnah series, Pagal Khaana and Pas e Deewaar on Green Entertainment.

Early life

Areeba Tirmizi was born on 21st July 1998 at Bahawal Victoria Hospital in Bahawalpur, Pakistan in an Urdu-speaking Syed family. Her father, Dr. Syed Ahmad Tirmizi, was of Pukhtun decent whose family emigrated to Rahim Yar Khan from Swat and her mother's family migrated to Bahawalpur, Pakistan after the partition from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh India. Her father was Pakistan's pioneer nano-chemist and Professor of Chemistry at Quaid e Azam University. Her mother is a fine artist and a graduate of National College of Arts Lahore. Tirmizi has a younger brother, Syed Shaheer Tirmizi, who is 4 years younger than her.

Tirmizi studied at The City School till her O Levels and did her A Levels from Roots Millennium School Islamabad. She was among the high achievers[1] of her class and also got accepted at Brown University where she hoped to be her father's legacy as he did his Ph.D. from Brown in 1987. Belonging to a family of academics, Tirmizi's father encouraged her to take pre baccalaureate credit courses during the summers at Brown University where she studied English Literature, Immunology and Pathophysiology. She credits her father for inculcating in her a strong interest and inclination towards STEM. Tirmizi graduated in 2022, majoring in Molecular Virology and her research titled, 'Isolation of Lytic Bacteriophages Against Multi-Drug Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniea' was a commendable paper as she was able to get positive results in just four months whereas bacteriophages studies are largely considered to take years of research for results. Tirmizi is currently pursuing her Masters in Healthcare Biotechnology alongside her career as a full-time actor.

Personal life

Areeba Tirmizi, in her interviews, has mentioned that she has no romantic partner and her sole focus is on her education and career. She calls herself an old soul and homebody as she spends most of her time with her family or reading. She is an avid hiker and enjoys time with nature. She has a cat named 'Minnow' who is a shorthair calico that she rescued from a rubble of a construction site at 1 week old. Tirmizi uses her social media as a tool to advocate for animal rights, women's rights and environmental conservation. Areeba Tirmizi also revealed in one of her Instagram posts that she has Common Variable Immunodeficiency and has been quite open about her struggles with recurring infections. She believes that her social diary can help other people relate to her and be grateful.

In 2022, her picture from the annual Aurat March went viral on social media with her placard reading 'Beti Dil Mein, Beti Will Mein' (Translation: Daughters in hearts and daughters in wills) advocating for women's rights to property and inheritance.
