Aram Tufan (born 1996 in Batman, Turkey) is a British entrepreneur, known primarily for founding the edtech platform "Happy Student" in 2022.[1][2]
Early life and education
Born and raised in Batman, Turkey, Aram Tufan completed his high school education there in 2013. Pursuing further linguistic education, he moved to the United Kingdom in 2014, where he studied English at International House London. Tufan continued his academic journey at the University of Westminster, graduating with a BA (Hons) in Business Management in 2021.[3]
Career
In 2021, amidst his university studies, Aram Tufan founded "Happy Student" to address challenges faced by students adapting to new educational environments. His work earned him an Honor Certificate from the University of Westminster for his research in this area.[4] The following year, Tufan's project received significant recognition, winning both the First Prize and the Viral Idea Prize at The Big Idea Competition sponsored by Santander Universities.[5] Tufan's initiative continued to gain traction in 2022, with an invitation to the Microsoft for Startups Program, solidifying its standing in the tech-entrepreneurial scene. The public launch of the Happy Student app in February 2023 was a key milestone, further amplified by support from The Mayor of London.[2] Under Tufan's leadership, Happy Student has continued to thrive. It was accepted into Santander X UCL Edtech Labs and shortlisted for the Santander X UK Awards in 2023. Tufan's entrepreneurial endeavors also contributed to the University of Westminster's rise to the 11th spot in UK entrepreneurship rankings.[6] Recently, Tufan was recognized as a finalist for the Entrepreneur of the Year at The Great British Entrepreneur Awards, an honor that underscores his impactful contributions to educational technology and entrepreneurship.[7]
Personal life
Beyond his professional pursuits, Tufan is a photography enthusiast. His work has appeared in publications such as the Financial Times and Archdaily.[8][9]
