Anu-Eerika Viljanen (born in Lahti, 1974) is the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Finland to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the non-resident Ambassador of Finland to the Republic of Yemen, and the Sultanate of Oman since August 2022. Viljanen has other representative experience in Paris, Rabat, Brussels and Strasbourg. She joined the Foreign Ministry in 2001. [1]

Biography

After graduating from high-school, Viljanen went to the University of Helsinki to pursue law, from where she graduated with a Master's in Law (LLM) in 2001. She has also completed courses in the studies on Business Administration and leadership at the University of Vaasa in 2005. [2]

Viljanen joined the Finnish Foreign Ministry after her graduation in 2001. She has served at the Permanent Representation of Finland to the Council of Europe during the Presidency of Finland to the Ministers’ Committee in Strasbourg, France (2018–2019), and as the Head of Administration and Personnel at the Permanent Representation of Finland to the EU in Brussels, Belgium (2012-2015). She was Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Finland in Paris, France (2019–2022). Since August 2022, she has served as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Finland to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the non-resident Ambassador of Finland to the Republic of Yemen, and the Sultanate of Oman. In 2023, she was awarded the ambassador award by the Confederation of Finnish Industries (Elinkeinoelämän keskusliitto) for being a "valuable partner for companies in mapping opportunities, identifying risks and understanding the country's special features." [3] She has worked for the Finnish Foreign Ministry for over 22 years. [2] According to the Finnish Foreign Ministry, Viljanen "has a strong background on multilateral affairs, security policy and equality issues." [2]

Personal life

Mrs. Anu-Eerika is married and has two adult children, and her hobbies include exercise and performing different kinds of sports. [2]
