Ansumana Keita (born 30 June 1960), also known as Ansu Keita, is a Liberian football coach and former player who played as a Midfielder. He is currently the head coach of Liberia national under-17 football team.[3][2]

Early life and Club Career

Keita was born 17 June 1982 in Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County. He, along with his family fled to Guinea during the First Liberian Civil War. In Guinea, he grew up playing football. He played for Diana FC in Nzérékoré before moving to Morocco to play for Olympique Club de Khouribga.

Coaching career

He settled in Canada after his playing career. In Canada, he started his coaching career. He mostly worked with FS Salaberry.[4][5] He worked as head for the U-15, U-16, U-17, and U-18 team before working as a Technical Director.[1]

Liberia National Under-17 Football Team

After years of working as a youth coach in Canada, he was appointed by the Liberia Football Association as head coach of the Liberia national under-17 football team.[2] He started his work as the Liberia national under-17 football team manager by building from the U-15 level for the 2021 WAFU U15 competition that was hosted in Sierra Leone.[6] He led the Liberia national under-17 football team to a 2-0 win over Morocco national under-17 football team in his first international friendly game.[7] Following several months of development, he led the Liberia national under-17 football team to Austria for a training camp.[3] In Austria, his team played against Red Bull Salzburg U17, Rapid Wien U18, First Vienna U17 and Austria Vienna U 18.[3] He won three and lost one of the four games played. The team only defeat was to Red Bull Salzburg U17.[8][9]

Liberia national football team

In July 2022, it was announced by the Liberia Football Association that Coach Ansu Keita will take over as head coach of the National home based team for the 2022 African Nations Championship first round qualifiers against Senegal.[10] He lost the first leg 3-0 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex and won the return leg 2-1 at the Diamniadio Olympic Stadium.[11][12] Liberia exit the qualifiers following a 4-2 aggregate loss to Senegal.[11][13] He led Liberia to their first ever away win against Senegal and it was the first time in history Liberia scored two goals away at Senegal.[13]
