Anna Von Frances (born 16 May 1979, Labrador City, Canada as Anna Anstey-Porter) is a Canadian YouTube creator, event planner, marketer, writer, and public speaker. She is best known for founding PinkMafia which is a street marketing and event planning company. Frances is also known for assisting women in abusive relationships. From 2009-2015, she also volunteered at non-profit organizations, Nelly’s Shelter and Sistering.[1]

Early life and education

Frances was born in Labrador City, Canada on May 16, 1979, to Greg Porter and Sandra Anstey. Her parents got a divorce when she was six months old. She grew up between her separated parents moving between Newfoundland, Ottawa, Toronto, and Edmonton.[2]

Frances attended Queen’s University’s Castle Program at East Sussex, UK in 1999. In 2002, She finished her bachelor's degree in English literature and creative writing from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. [3]

Career

Frances joined MuchMusic as publicity coordinator in 2002 after obtaining her degree. She worked there for two years managing the media lists, managing press releases for potential sponsorships in the future. She was also managing the press and public for MuchMusic Video Awards event.[4]

In 2004 she founded PinkMafia which is an all-female marketing and event planning company focusing on the entertainment industry. The company is known for viral street and digital promotions, event planning, and brand image consultations. PinkMafia street team handles the street promotions like poster, flyering campaigns. The company has done poster campaigns for Steam Whistle’s Unsigned Series, street team for Clinton’s, The Gladstone Hotel, AIDS Action Now! and others. The company also ideates and executes innovative campaigns like Sailor Jerry Rum’s Centennial celebration and guerilla art postering campaign for AIDS Action Now!, and others. PinkMafia is currently one of Canada’s only national street teams.[5]

Between 2003 and 2010, she threw weekly and monthly parties in Toronto. Under her leadership, PinkMafia also organized national Canadian all-female DJ Tour, Get 'Er Done in 2008 and 2009. She headed up the marketing team to launch Tattoo Rock Parlour by INK and Liberty, Wrongbar in Toronto, and others.[6]

Notably, since 2010, PinkMafia has organized the Annual Summer Event for Brightworks Marketing and Advertising. PinkMafia has also handled the Ubisoft Toronto Launch in 2010. The company also organized Junos Events between 2005 to 2011 including Heavy on the Right Coast hosted by Drake. The company also handled VIP Media Launch Pride Toronto between 2006 and 2009. The company has also planned and organized events for MTV, Rockstar Hotel, and others.[7]

She has also appeared on MuchMusic's Video On Trial between 2005 and 2008, and MuchMusic's Headlines on Trial in 2006.[8]

Frances worked as a columnist in Xtra magazine between 2008 and 2014 under the pen name, Anna Pournikova, for their column, Xposed which is a nightlife section for the magazine focusing on people and events in Toronto, Canada. She is a columnist in The Rebel Mama since 2016.

Frances has also been creating YouTube content after leaving Canada to travel the world. She has garnered over 18,700 subscribers over the last five years. After the birth of her daughter, Luna, she rebranded the channel to TravelMana, Anna Von in 2017. The channel shows their family journey and travel experiences across nine countries. [9]

Frances is a public speaker who has been invited to speak at Google and Expedia in Mexico in 2019 among others.[10]

Volunteer work

Frances volunteered at Sistering weekly 2009-2015 by assisting in food preparations, and fundraising for their various events and initiatives. PinkMafia organized a charity fundraiser, GirlFight, to raise funds and awareness for Nellie's Women’s Shelter by planning and organizing all-female combat sports events 2013 to 2014. Frances also participated in the Scotiabank Toronto marathon as a part of Nellie’s Women’s Shelter team 2013-2014.[11]
