Anita Mangan is an English author and illustrator.
Early life and education
Mangan was born in 1969 in Enfield to parents James and Mary, who were from Erris in Ireland. She is the middle of three children, between brother Stephen and sister Lisa.[1] She trained at University of the Arts in Camberwell, graduating with a first class honours degree in Graphic Design & Illustration.[2]
Career
Mangan spent eight years working for the charity Comic Relief before going to art school. Since graduating, she has worked as designer/illustrator for many brands, including Leon Restaurants.[3] She has designed or illustrated almost 100 books, including award-winning books for the Leon brand, Fearne Cotton, Ella’s Kitchen and Hachette’s Be a Unicorn, Sloth, Flamingo... series.[4]
Mangan encouraged her actor brother, Stephen Mangan, to write stories, and the pair have created ten best-selling children's books, including a World Book Day project. They attended Bath Children’s Literature Festival together in 2025.[5]
Anita and Stephen regularly appear together on Celebrity Gogglebox.[6] In 2023 Anita appeared on Sky Arts' Celebrity Portrait Artist of the Year.
Mangan has twice hosted the British Book Design & Production Awards.[7]
