Anita Gupta is a chief executive, medical doctor-pharmacist.[1][2][3][4]

Early life and education

Gupta was born and raised in Philadelphia. Her mother was a teacher, and her father was a veterinarian. After graduation from high school, she attended The College of New Jersey for two years later transferring to the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy completing dual-degrees in pharmacy (B.S) and a doctorate in pharmacy (Pharm.D.). She then worked at Organon & Co. now Merck & Co., Inc. when she was then later attended medical school at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine where she pursued her doctorate of osteopathic medical degree (D.O.). She then completed her anesthesiology residency at Georgetown University School of Medicine and interventional pain fellowship at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.[5] In 2018, Gupta graduated from Princeton University[6] with a master's in public policy (MPP, HHP) and in 2020 from Harvard Business School from the General Management Program. She was named an ambassador[7] to the Harvard Business School General Management Program and was the speaker of the graduating business school class. In 2022, she was named regional co-president of the Harvard-I Alumnae Network of Women and regional director of the Harvard Business School Healthcare Alumni Association. She is the first physician graduate of both Princeton University and Harvard Business School.

Career

Gupta was appointed at University of Pennsylvania as faculty after completing her medical residency and later she spent 10 years at Tenet Healthcare, Hahnemann University Hospital working on the opioid crisis[8] and intractable pain. During her work in Philadelphia she was appointed as an advisor to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and became an public health advocate for the expansion of the opioid antidote naloxone[9] in coordination with the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the FDA in 2015. In 2016, she noted that a case of naloxone resistance[10] in Philadelphia due to increasing synthetic opioids in illicit substance use. She worked with Heron Therapeutics[11] to address breakthrough development of a non-opioid alternative to address the unmet needs of patients. In 2019, she was appointed to the Global Forum of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. In 2021, Gupta became the chief executive of the Strata Group, Inc, where she led HealthPivot.org,[12] during the peak emergence COVID-19[13] on vaccines, prevention,[14][15][16][17][18] and treatments.[19][20][21]
