Aneez K Mappila (Aneez K M, born 6th July 1985), is a Documentary Filmmaker who prominently works in Indian Documentary films; his area of expertise is Ethnographic filmmaking. He won the National Film Award for Best Anthropological/Ethnographic Documentary Film at the 65th National Film Awards by the Government of India for his documentary The Slave Genesis. The jury mentioned 'The Slave Genesis - A cinematic exploration of a little-known tribal community that has internalised its oppression through elaborate creation myths'.
Early Life and Family
Aneez K Mappila was born into a Mappila Muslim Family in Pariyaram Village, Wayanad, the youngest son of K Muhammedkutti (a retired deputy collector) and K Amina. His family migrated from Eranad after the Malabar rebellion of 1921 as contract labourers at tea plantations in Wayanad.
He completed his primary schooling at Government UP school Pariyaram and SKMJ Higher Secondary School (Kalpetta). He did his Secondary schooling at WMO Higher Secondary School (Pinangode). He holds a bachelor's degree in English language & literature from Calicut University and a Post graduate diploma in Journalism from the Calicut Press Club.
