Dr. Andrew Neighbors is an American YouTube personality, filmmaker, vlogger, model and optometrist.[1]
Biography
Neighbors was born on August 14, 1990 in Alabama to David Phillip and Halley Ann Neighbors. He was raised in Arkansas, where he came out at the age of 15.[2] Neighbors enrolled at the Pre-Medicine Arkansas State University program in 2008. Neighbors attended the Southern College of Optometry, where he was co-author of an investigation on ocular comfort.[3] In 2015, after winning an essay contest, he was one of four recipients of a $150 travel grant by the Tennesse Chapter of the American Academy of Optometry for their annual meeting in New Orleans.[4] Upon graduating in the summer of 2016, he was co-recipient of the Drs. Fred and Charlene Burnett Student Research Award.[5]
Neighbors started his YouTube channel on August 2015, after completing his third didactic year in the Southern College of Optometry. He has stated that through his channel he has tried to normalize a "gay, professional lifestyle".[6] Neighbors has credited his success as a vlogger to his originality while other have to his "good looks and sweet personality".[7][8] He based his practice as a travelling optometrist in Denver, Colorado and then moved to Los Angeles in 2018.[9]
Neighbors does not take images of himself below the waist since he is not comfortable with it and has defined that as something reserved for his boyfriends, some of have accompanied him on video.[10] He has described himself as a "huge fantasy film nerd" and has expressed his liking of the Games of Thrones and Harry Potter franchises.[11] In early 2020, Neighbors travelled to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.[12] During the Covid-19 Pandemic he posted a video reflecting on his early age signs that helped him identify as a homosexual.[13]
