Andrew Maximov (born 1990) is a video game art director and the founder of Promethean AI, an artificial intelligence company that democratizes virtual world creation, headquartered in Los Angeles.[1]

Early life

Maximov was born in 1990 in Minsk, Belarus. He has grown up playing video games since early age. At the age of 18 he dropped out of Belarusian State University to make video games professionally.[2][3]

Career

In 2008, at the age of 18, Maximov started working at Wargaming.net as a 3D computer graphics artist, working on Square Enix published real-time strategy Order of War, and then transitioning to being one the first artists on the Massively Multiplayer Online Game World of Tanks. From there he worked with Gameloft Montreal and Kixeye in San Francisco, before arriving at Naughty Dog.[4] There he worked on titles like Uncharted 4, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and The Last of Us: Part II.[5]

In 2018 Maximov founded Promethean AI, an artificial intelligence company focused on supporting artists.[6][7]

Educational work

Maximov is actively involved in education often giving lectures in the United States at events like Game Developers Conference[8] where he also co-runs the Art Direction Summit[9] and internationally, having lectured in Sweden[10], Italy[11] South Korea[12], Japan[13], Poland[14][15], Bulgaria[16] and Uganda[17] among others. He has also published articles in the Game Developer Magazine[18] and released an educational DVD on Shader Production in 2012.[19]

Awards and nominations

Maximov has been included in the Develop (magazine) 2014 30 Under 30 list[20] as well 2018 Forbes 30 under 30 list.[21] The titles he worked on received high accolades across the industry and were a big economic success. His personal art has been highly praised by the industry media as well.[22][23]
