Andrew Leaver (26 January 1963 - 23 December 1982) was an English musician from Bushey, Hertfordshire, and had an early association with George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley in the band The Executive.

Early life

Leaver was born at home in Perry Mead, Bushey, during a notably long and cold winter. He attended local schools including Merry Hill Infants School, Ashfield Primary School, and Bushey Meads School.

Musical career

In the late 1970s, Leaver developed a passion for music, collecting vinyl records from various artists such as Chic, Talking Heads, B52's, David Bowie, and reggae performers. He taught himself to play acoustic guitar and later upgraded to an electric guitar with a Marshall speaker.

Leaver was a member of the ska band The Executive, which included future Wham! members George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley, as well as Paul Ridgeley (Andrew's brother) and David Austin. The band regularly practiced at Leaver's house, where he played rhythm guitar.

Legacy

Tragically, Leaver was diagnosed with cancer in August 1982 and passed away at home on December 23, 1982, at the age of 19. In recognition of his contribution and friendship, Wham! dedicated their first album, "Fantastic," to Andrew Leaver and another friend, Paul Atkins.
