Andrea Magini (born 27 April 1991) is an Italian sport physiotherapist and rehabilitation specialist known for his work in elite professional football.[1] He has been part of the medical and performance staff of major international clubs and national teams, including Chelsea FC, Villarreal CF, the China Olympic Committee, and the China national futsal team.[2] Magini is recognized as one of the few Italian physiotherapists to have contributed to a UEFA European title, having been involved with Chelsea during their UEFA Europa Conference League victory.[3]

Early Life and Education

Andrea Magini was born in Montevarchi, in the province of Arezzo, Tuscany. From an early age, he developed an interest in sports science and athletic performance, leading him to specialize in sports physiotherapy. His academic background later expanded into teaching, and he became involved in higher education alongside his professional career.

Career

Early Career in Italy

Magini began his professional career in Italy, working within youth football development systems. From 2014 to 2015, he served as a sport physiotherapist for ACF Fiorentina’s youth department, gaining experience in injury prevention and rehabilitation for elite-level young athletes.[4][5]

International Experience and National Teams

Between 2017 and 2019, Magini expanded his career internationally, working with several national and elite teams:

  • China National Futsal Team (CFA) (2017–2018) – Sport Physiotherapist
  • Rugby New Zealand National Team (2017) – Sport Physiotherapist
  • China Olympic Committee (2019) – Sport Physiotherapist

During this period, he was based primarily in Beijing, where he developed expertise in cross-cultural high-performance environments and multidisciplinary medical teams.[6][7]

Magini later worked extensively in the Chinese Super League (CSL):

  • Shijiazhuang Ever Bright F.C. (2020) – Sport Physiotherapist

European Clubs

In 2023, Magini joined Villarreal CF in Spain as a sport physiotherapist, contributing to the club’s medical and rehabilitation programs.[8]

Later the same year, he became part of the medical staff of Chelsea Football Club in London, one of the most prominent clubs in world football. During his tenure, Chelsea won the UEFA Europa Conference League, marking Magini as the first individual from Terranuova Bracciolini to be associated with a European football trophy.[9][10]

Academic Career

Alongside his professional work in football, Magini has served as a university professor and tutor at the University of Siena since 2021, contributing to academic training in sports science and physiotherapy.
