André Costa[1] (born September 10, 1989), best known as AMYAK,[2] is a Portuguese multi-instrumentalist, singer and former bassist of the rock band UTTER[3] He is known for his multi-genre deviations, from dark ambient electronic to summerish rock songs. His first single as AMYAK, Dark Side Chill,[4] was released on February 9, 2020.[5]
From 2007 to 2012, AMYAK performed as bass player of the indie rock band UTTER, described by French magazine Les Inrockuptibles as metaphysical post-rock.[6] The band shared stage with names such as Shout Out Louds[7] or Feeder.[8]
During 2014, AMYAK made some soundtracks for commercial videos in Portugal,[9][10][11][12] under the artist name "Reflexo Cognitivo".[13]
In 2020, the multi-instrumentalist and singer comes back, under the name of AMYAK.[14]
Early Life
André Costa started learning piano at the age of 6, having home classes with his father. With 11 years old, he started having private bass classes at a music store, while playing keyboard in his father's traditional/pop covers band. At the age of 12, André switches to bass, giving around 20 to 30 concerts per year all around Portugal. Few years later, he joins the classical music school to learn classical guitar, but quits few time after.
Personal Life
After moving to Azores in 2015, and Lublin in 2016, André currently lives in Krakow, Poland.
