Anders Vinjar (born 8 July 1963) is a Norwegian composer, programmer and concert-producer.[1]

Biography

Vinjar was born in Bærum, just outside Oslo. He began his composing career while studying ethnomusicology at the University of Oslo. He explores creative use of computer-technology, and prefers to compose by coding rather than using pen and paper or playing on traditional instruments.

Work

Vinjars list of works includes electroacoustic music, instrumental music, web art, installations and music for stage.[2]

He has collaborated with other artists and ensembles such as SISU percussion, swedish Audiorama, Cikada, author Beate Grimsrud, percussionist Eirik Raude Poing trio, and artist Leif Inge in his 9 Beet Stretch-project. Vinjars music is performed in Norway and abroad.

Music and technology

As a side-effect from his own use of computers in creative workflows, Vinjar also develops more general applications for Musical composition and DSP/Audio, such as OpenMusic and om#. He has a close collaboration with programmers at IRCAM and CCRMA, and takes part in various Open Source projects for music.[3]

Since 2013 Vinjar has been experimenting with the use of AI and Machine Learning algorithms in composition work.[4]

Parts of this work has been presented in various publications and conference-programs, such as the Linux Audio Conference[5], Society for Music and Computing, and the OM composers book[6]

Performing

Vinjar is active as a performer. He was active in establishing the Electric Audio Unit (EAU), an ensemble specialising in commissioning and performing Acousmatic and Ambisonics music.

During 2017 and 2018 Vinjar was guest lecturer at the Norwegian Academy of Music, giving classes in Computer Assisted Composition.
