Ananda Raj Khanal, a Nepalese-born director at the country's independent and autonomous telecom regulator NTA, was born and raised in Nepal. He served as Assistant Professor and Department In-Charge for Kathmandu University's Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in Nepal before joining NTA in April 2006. He continues to teach courses on ICTs and telecommunications as a visiting professor at various universities in Nepal. He has a Master of Engineering in Optical Communication and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communications. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree with a gold medal. Mr. Khanal has participated in a number of training sessions on policy, regulation, and administration of ICTs and Telecommunications offered by a variety of reputable international institutions, including the ITU, ACMA, PURC, APT, TEMIC, USTTI, and others. Additionally, he has taken part in a number of symposiums, meetings, workshops, and seminars on broadband, ICTs, and telecommunications. Mr. Khanal is a well-known speaker in these fields and is very active in ITU plenipotentiary conferences, WRCs, WTDCs, ITU-D study groups, GSRs, WSIS, APT, and SATRC activities. He has delivered a number of keynote addresses and participated in and moderated a number of panel discussions both inside and outside the nation. He was chosen as the ITU-D Study Group 2's Vice Chairman for the years 2014 to 2018.From 2010 to 2014, he was the Study Group 2 Vice Rapporteur.In 2013–2014, he worked as a consultant for SATRC under APT. He is deeply interested in ICTs and in leadership and management. He practises spiritualism and philosophy, which he studies. His interests include hiking, music listening, reading, writing, public speaking, and songwriting.
