His writings and illustrations explore themes of ecology, wildlife, and the need to preserve the natural world.

Life and Education

Amruth Sathyasai Settipalli was born on December 20, 2011, in Santa Clara, California. From an early age, Settipalli showed creativity, spending much of his time writing stories and creating art, primarily using watercolors and pencils. At the age of 7, in 2018, Settipalli participated in a Young Author's Contest hosted by the Fremont Unified School District. His entry, Legend of Blood Wolf, is a 20-page adventure that follows Zach, a boy born on the night of a blood moon, who mysteriously gains the powers of a wolf. As Zach navigates his new abilities, he befriends others with similar gifts but faces a climactic battle with dragon children. In the story’s conclusion, Zach loses his best friend, Max, who betrays him by revealing himself as a dragon child. Through this journey, Zach learns to embrace his powers and understand the deep connection between his identity and the forces of nature.

In 5th grade, Settipalli started attending The Nueva School. In 6th grade, his writing teacher encouraged him to apply for a scholarship with Creative Youth Collective, a mentorship program designed to support young artists and writers[2]. Settipalli was awarded a scholarship that year and was included in the organization's anthology[3]. He connected with other like-minded artists, writers, photographers, and poets, which helped him publish his first book shortly after.

Artistic Pursuits

Settipalli’s debut book, Nature, was published in May 2024. The collection of poems and illustrations explores the interconnectedness of human life and the natural world. His work aims to encourages readers, particularly young audiences, to appreciate the beauty of nature while promoting environmental responsibility. Settipalli was also featured in the groups' 2022-2024 Anthology.[3]

In late 2024, following smaller community share outs at Mitchel Park Library and SFMOMA Settipalli presented Nature at a Young Author Showcase at the San Mateo Public Library to a crowd of local residents, librarians, and community members. During the event, he read select poems from his book, discussed the inspiration behind his work, and answered questions on his creative process and future projects among other things. After the event, the librarians decided to add Nature to the permanent collection at both San Mateo Public Library and Menlo Park Library.[4]

Settipalli is currently writing his second book One Day Before Winter about a graphic novel abouct a family of squirrels who survive a forest fire. It is set to be published in the summer of 2025.
