Amrit Gurung (Born: June 1, 1968, Nepali: अमृत गुरूङ) is a Nepali musician, singer, Lyricist, Poet[1] and photographer. He is the lead singer and the co-founder of the popular band Nepathya. Besides music, he is passionate traveler and photographer. He travelled almost 70 districts of Nepal out of 75 districts.[2]
Early Life
Amrit Gurung was born in Mulpani, Pokhara, Nepal. Before entering into music, he has interest in painting and photography.[2] He developed reading habit during his younger age and he loves to read Nepali books.[3] His first job was teaching which he continued for 7 months and quit.[3] He did his schooling at Gandaki Boarding School in Pokhara and moved to Kathmandu for further studies.
Career
He has started his musical journey with the formation of the Nepathya Band in 1990. Since the formation of the band he is the lead vocalist and the consistent member. During the early time of the career he is more involved in pop and rock music and his interest in folk music grew bit lately but now his genre considered as "Folk-Rock".[4]
He is the primary songwriter of the band and composed many songs including "Sa Karnali", "Chekyo Chekyo", "Mero Desh", "Bhedako Oon Jasto", "Parelima" and "Resham".[5]
He also heads the music wing in Nepa~laya.[6]
Social work
Amrit Gurung has involved in many social activities. In 2000's during Nepal's civil conflict, he with his band initiated "Sundar Santa Nepal" campaign aim to heal the wound of victim through music and "Shanti ko lagi siksha" to promote peace and unity.[7]
He also raises awareness about social unity in various stage programs.[8]
Nepathya
Amrit Gurung is the lead singer and the co-founder of Nepathya. This band is co-founded by him along with Deepak Rana and Bhim Poon while studying in Kathmandu.

Performance
Gurung has led Nepathya in concerts across Nepal and internationally, including tours in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and various European countries.[9] In 2013, Nepathya performed at London’s Wembley Arena, marking a milestone in Nepali music history[10] and in 2025 the band has performed in the Wembley Arena for the second time after 12 years[11]

Personal Life
He lives in his home village Mulpani near Pokhara. He lives a simple, self-sustained life in the village and grows his own food in his own land.[13] In a recent interview, he stated that he intends to continue his musical career for the rest of his life.[14] In 2005, he was diagnosed with pharyngitis, which affected his voice. To recover from this impact, he eliminated many foods from his diet.[15]
