Amita Pavgi Gokhale is a new-generation Hindustani classical music vocalist[1][2]. She is the disciple of Vid. Shubhada Pavgi.[3] and Pt. Sharad Sathe[4][5], thus receiving taleem under the Gwalior gharana. Amita is a graded artist of the All India Radio.[6] In 2001, Amita established a music school by the name of Swaranubhooti Gurukul[7][8] where she imparts taleem to students at all stages in their musical journey.
Lineage and Training
Amita was brought up in a family with a rich musical legacy which had a significant impact on her passion for music. Amita’s formal training started at the age of 4 with her mother and Guru, well-known music critic and Hindustani classical vocalist, Sou. Shubhada Pavgi[9]. Further, Amita started her advanced music training with Pt. Sharad Sathe[5], a doyen of Gwalior Gharana. The polished and matured grace and depth in Raag that are reflected in Amita's musicianship are the results of her advanced training with Panditji for more than 25 years. Moreover, Padmashree Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar and Padmashree Taalyogi Pt. Suresh Talwalkar also play a vital role as mentors and philosophers in Amita's music career[10]. Along with khyaal-gayan, Amita also performs Thumri, Bhajans, Abhangas with high command.
Education
On the educational front, Amita secured her graduation in the field of commerce from Mulund College of Commerce. She then pursued her master’s degree in Fine Arts (Music) from Mumbai University. Simultaneously, she attained Sangeet Alankar from the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal. She went on to win several scholarships, like the Pt. Bhimsen Joshi Scholarship, the Sajan Milap Scholarship etc.

Awards and Scholarships
Amita has received several scholarships and awards in recognition of her contributions to Hindustani classical music. She was honored with the Pt. Bhimsen Joshi Scholarship, the Dadar Matunga Cultural Center Scholarship, and the Sajan Milap Scholarship for her excellence in the field. Additionally, she received the Kalavant Puraskar from the Jyeshtha Nagrik Sangh, Mulund, an award given annually to women achievers across various fields on Women's Day, acknowledging her remarkable contributions to Indian classical music.
Founder of Antarnaad Pratishthan
Amita is the founder and secretary of Antarnaad Pratishthan;[12] an esteemed platform dedicated to preserving, promoting, and celebrating the profound legacy of Hindustani Classical Music (HCM). Established in 2014 with Mandar Gokhale, this institution was created with the mission of nurturing young talent, fostering a deeper appreciation for HCM, and revolutionizing public perception of this art form. Rooted in a deep sense of commitment, Antarnaad Pratishthan strives to make Hindustani Classical Music an integral part of society. With the unwavering support of like-minded individuals, the trust works towards creating sustainable interest in HCM, spreading awareness of its true value, and amplifying its presence in the modern world. [13]For the past decade, Amita and Mandar Gokhale have been the driving forces behind this initiative, elevating Antarnaad Pratishthan to new heights and making a lasting impact on the landscape of Hindustani Classical Music.
Other Achievements
Apart from the field of music, owing to her creative and reflective personality, Amita also works in the field of fine writing and poetry writing. Recently, she published her book “Oh! Womaniya!”[14] essaying the stories of a middle-class woman struggling to strike a balance on her career and family fronts. The book can be viewed and purchased using this link.
Amita has also written, composed, sung and produced the song— Dhunda Madmasta Raat Hee which is available on YouTube[15]
Teaching Career: Swaranubhooti Gurukul
In 2001, Amita established a Hindustani classical music school Swaranubhooti Gurukul[8] to pass on the valuable treasure of Hindustani Abhijat Sangeet. Through this, Amita trains students at all stages of their musical journey. She encourages an environment where learning not only takes place during class but also outside of it through reflection, riyaaz, and listening. As a result, we have over 100 disciples learning at Swaranubhooti Gurukul.
Swaranubhooti Gurukul has been offering Hindustani Classical Music classes for 20 years. Our music learning center is located in Mulund, India. We believe that music has the power to transport us to another time and place. With individual sessions and group batches, we have been able to cater to students from all over the world through offline and online batches.[16] Amita ji also conducts occasional workshops on relevant topics such as "Voice Culture", "How to do Riyaz" etc. Several videos and performances of Amita's disciples can be found on the Swaranubhooti Gurukul YouTube channel.
