Sheikh Amin bin Abdullah Dhafir bin Hamoud Atef (Arabic: الشيخ أمين بن عبد الله ظافر بن حمود عاطف; born 1974 in Khamer, Amran Governorate, Yemen) is a Yemeni tribal leader and politician. He was elected as the Sheikh of the Hashid tribes and serves as a member of the Yemeni Shura Council, where he chairs the council’s Economic Committee. He is also known for his political and social engagement in Yemen.
Tribal leadership
On 9 July 2023, a meeting of the Hashid tribal sheikhs, elders, and notables was held in Khamer, resulting in his election as the Sheikh of the Hashid tribes.[1]
Political role
He serves as a member of the Shura Council of Yemen and chairs the Economic Committee of the council. He has also met representatives of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation within the framework of his political and social activities.[2]
Background
Amin Atef received his primary education in Khamer. He became involved in tribal and political affairs at an early age and is regarded as one of the influential leaders within the Hashid tribal confederation.[3]
Detention
In December 2017, Al-Mushahid newspaper published a list of detainees, mentioning Sheikh Amin Atef among those detained in Amran Governorate.[4]
