Psychic is generally considered to be the one who is associated with ghosts, dragons, spirits, or angels and can do magical spells like many movies depict in their storyline like The Initiation of Sarah, Scanners and some features of Stephen King amongst others but in general it is considered as fiction, myth or pseudoscience.
If there are many who deny and never believe in such powers, there are a lot of people who believe it to be true, life-changing and admire someone who they believe can change their lives and heal them spiritually. Some famous American psychics have been Edgar Cayce, Ingo Swann, and Tyler Henry.
In America, there are many who claim to be psychic and help people but it is hard to evaluate who is actually a psychic and who is just doing a fraudulent activity with poor believers. Much research have been done in this regard spying on psychic and their skills, the outcome of which repeatedly surprise the disbelievers of such powers.
Unlike other countries, America has a very less percentage of frauds being done in the name of psychics, supernatural powers, or religion as per research and data. Activist Susan Gerbic illustrated a number of techniques that she says Psychics often use to create their effects.
A survey was done in the US on paranormal topics and was held by The Gallup Organization in 2005. The survey shows that 41% of those who took part believed in extrasensory perception and 26% believed in clairvoyance. 31% of those believed in telepathy or psychic communication. Somehow most Americans believe that Psychics heal and help people, it’s about who is effective and masters his art.
