Amarjiva Lochan is an Indian Professor[1], writer, and author. He is the Joint Dean of International Relations[2] and Foreign Students at the University of Delhi.[3] He is the Vice President of the International Association for the History of Religions (IAHR), the first-ever Asian to become so.[4] He teaches the History and Religions of India.

Amarjiva Lochan was born in Gaya, Bihar. He graduated from the University of Delhi where he completed his PhD on acculturation.

He is a part of the editorial boards of five international journals. His writings focus on the syncretic nature of religions in Southeast Asia. He received Ford Scholarship for his writings on the role of the Brahmin priests in Thailand, changing Buddhism's faces and art.

His published work includes 51 research articles and 10 monographs.[5]

In 2015, he was among the 47 academics and scholars to issue statements against the narrative of leftist historians of growing intolerance in India.[6]

In 2020, as a deputy Dean, Lochan’s department helped foreign students[7] from conflict-prone areas such as Afghanistan and Palestine to continue their education during the pandemic.[8]

In August 2021, Lochan proposed releasing a Commemorative Postage Stamp[9] on Mananiya Chaman Lal as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations hosted by the Central Government of India.[10]

In September 2022, Lochan headed a team of scholars, students, and teachers from the University of Delhi[11] to collate & prepare raw data for Google’s provision of Artificial Intelligence to translate Sanskrit text as part of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations’ initiative of promoting Indic languages.[12]

In May 2023, as a deputy Dean, he said, the University was set to raise the intake of international students by 20%[13] in the next academic cycle, compared to the previous year, and was keen to attract a greater number of foreign applicants.[14]
