Amar Charles Marouf (born 2000) is a Canadian entrepreneur[1][2][3][4], business development and public relations specialist, writer[5], influencer[6], actor[7][8][9][10][11], and musician[12][13]. He is a descendant of Harriet Tubman through his maternal grandmother and a hyperpolyglot who speaks more than ten languages. He has founded and sold two businesses before the age of 25: Charles Amar Circular Fashion Company, a sustainable carbon zero fashion brand; and Aleteo Corporations, a global consulting firm. He is currently working as the head of US Initiative at Gowling WLG LLP, a global law firm. He has also acted in several films and television shows. He is also a Global Shapers|Global Shaper of the World Economic Forum, a reporter for various media outlets, and an ecosystem builder for Canada and Latin America. He has published several essays and books on topics such as international relations, entrepreneurship, globalization, art, history and business.

Background

Amar Charles Marouf was born in 2000 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He is a descendant of Harriet Tubman through his maternal grandmother Irenka Farmilo, who is related to Tubman’s father Ben Ross[14]. His maternal grandfather Dr. Charles Farmilo, was a Canadian forensic scientist who worked at the Organic Chemistry and Narcotic Section of the Food and Drug Laboratories of the Department of National Health and Welfare in Ottawa.[15] Dr. Farmilo was an expert on the identification of narcotics and co-authored a series of articles on the physical methods for their identification.[16] He was one of the founding members of the Canadian Society of Forensic Science (CSFS).[17]

Amar's parents moved to Algeria soon after his birth, where he spent his early childhood. He also lived in France, the United States, and England for several years. He attended Elms Farm Primary School and Cockshut Hill Technology College in Birmingham. He returned to Canada with his family in late teens and joined OrKidstra, a music program for children from under-served communities in Ottawa. Amar completed his high school education at Hillcrest High School (Ottawa)|Hillcrest High School in Ottawa in 2018. He developed an interest in music at a young age and learned to play the cello and sing in choir. He also became fluent or proficient in several languages, including English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Arabic, Persian, Romanian, Russian and German language|German.

Education

Amar Charles Marouf pursued his Honours Bachelor of Global & International Studies at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario.[18] He specialized in Global Law & Social Justice and minored in Spanish. He also studied one semester in Paris, France at Institut libre d’étude des relations internationales (ILERI). He was the executive of public affairs for H.O.L.A.S (Humanitarian Organization of Latin American Students) and wrote a research thesis on Kyoto Protocol, Liberalism, Climate Change and UNFCCC.

In addition to his studies in global and international studies, Amar also studied opera at the University of Ottawa and at the Breno Italy International Music Academy[19] in Breno, Italy.

Career

Amar Charles Marouf is a business development and public relations specialist with over five years of experience in consulting for corporate, government, and non-governmental organizations. He has worked on strategic financial relations initiatives, mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings, joint partnerships, bankruptcies, proxy communications, shareholder advocacy, succession planning, debt refinancing, and crisis communications. He is currently working as the head of US Initiative at Gowling WLG LLP, a global law firm. In addition to his professional career, he is also a reporter for various media outlets and an ecosystem builder for Canada and Latin America. He is an Honorary Reporter appointed by the Ambassador of Korea to Canada in a special year of 60 years of bilateral relations between the countries being celebrated.[20] He is also a Global Shapers|Global Shaper of the World Economic Forum.[21]

Marouf has been involved in various volunteer activities in the arts and humanitarian sectors. He has served on the board of CAMMAC, a national organization that offers music camps, workshops and concerts for amateur musicians of all ages and levels.[22] He has also volunteered with the Ottawa Arts Association, a non-profit organization that promotes and supports local artists, and OrKidstra[23], a music program that empowers children from under-served communities through music education.[24] He has participated in several fundraising events for causes such as mental health awareness, environmental protection and refugee support.

Entrepreneurship

He is also a serial entrepreneur[25] who has founded and sold two businesses before the age of 25: Charles Amar Circular Fashion Company, a sustainable fashion brand that was acquired by the Fédération de la Mode Circulaire[26][27]; and Aleteo Corporations, a global consulting firm for entrepreneurs that worked on projects such as the Aleteo project for Iberdrola[28][29] and was acquired by the Vanguard Group.[30] He has also represented Canada as a delegate at the G20 Young Entrepreneurs’ Alliance Summit in Milan, and Hamburg with Futurpreneur Canada , and at the Global Entrepreneurship Congress with Startup Canada in Saudi Arabia.[31][32][33][34][35].

Marouf has published several essays and books on topics such as international law, entrepreneurship, globalization, science, and arts.[36][37] Some of his publications are:
