Dr. Amalle Keita is a physician, gynecologist, and philanthropist from Mali. She is the Founder of the Association de l’Intervention pour les Mères (A.I.M), a charity organization focused on maternal and child health. Dr. Keita's work has received recognition, including a nomination by the United Nations Organization (UN) as a special consultant to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
Early life
Amalle Keita was born in Cairo, Egypt. Her mother, Nafissa Hassane Abdel Fattah, originates from Egypt, while her father, Lamine Keita, is from Mali, where he serves as an academic professor and the owner of private schools in Bamako and Keniero-Siby.
Amidst a culturally diverse upbringing, Amalle Keita earned a high school certificate from Lycée Français du Caire before embarking on her medical studies at Ain Shams University.
Education
Amalle Keita obtained her medical degree (MB-BCh) and completed gynecology studies at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. She began her medical journey with a residency at Marly Clinic in Marly Le Roi City, France, and later worked as a practitioner in Mali's governmental University Teaching hospitals.
In 2010, she earned a Public Health degree from Keller Graduate School of DeVry University in New York City.
Career
During her tenure as President of the OAU Ladies Association from 1996 to 1999, Dr. Keita actively facilitated donations to various clinics with the aim of improving the quality of their services.
Dr. Keita founded the Association de l’Intervention pour les Mères (AIM) in 2007 to address the urgent need for improved maternal, violence against women and child healthcare in Mali's rural areas.
During the Ebola virus crisis in West Africa from 2014 to 2015, she served as a technical consultant and health adviser to Mali's Prime Minister.
Her dedication to women's health is evident through her involvement with the Malian Canadian academic staff group, conducting workshops and practical training in Bamako, Mopti, and Sevare. Dr. Keita also contributed significantly to medical research and academic supervision of doctoral theses in the field of women's health and reproductive issues.
In 2016, she earned certificates in Global Development and processes for sustainable peace and Democratic Governance from United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and Columbia University. Dr. Keita actively participated in the launch of the African Women Leaders Association (AWLN) at the United Nations headquarters in New York in June 2017, aiming to transform Africa into a peaceful, developed, and prosperous continent.
Her contributions to the health sector were recognized with an award for outstanding achievements in health services by the Gambia Mission to the United Nations in 2017, as well as an award for excellence in maternal healthcare from the Mali University Teaching Hospital Center Gabriel Touré 'National Union for Socio-Sanitary Renewal (SYNARESS)' in 2008.
Recently, in 2021, Dr. Keita was invited to an interview on Nile TV International, where she discussed important issues surrounding women's protection and development, including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
Personal life
Dr Keita is married to H. E Oumar Daou former Mali Ambassador to Rwanda (2017-2022) and Permanent representative to United Nations (2008-2013). They have three children.
