Ama Elsesser (born May 1, 2000) is an American model, actress, and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community.[1] Elsesser, represented by IMG Models Worldwide, has appeared in advertisements for numerous fashion labels, including Calvin Klein, Fenty, UGG, Kenzo, and Adidas. Early life and education
Elsesser was born Amaterasu Eliana Oshun Elsesser on May 1, 2000, in California. They grew up in a diverse family, with a Chilean-Swiss immigrant father and an African-American Buddhist mother. Elsesser is one of three siblings, alongside sisters Kanyessa Elsesser McMahon and Paloma Kai Shockley Elsesser, the latter of whom is also a plus-size model and advocate for body positivity.
Career
Elsesser started her career in the fashion and entertainment industry as a model. She first appeared in Jonah Hill's directorial debut, "Mid90s," in 2018, garnering significant recognition and establishing her as a sought-after model and actress.[4] She has collaborated with renowned brands such as Calvin Klein, Fenty, and Adidas. She has also appeared in several fashion publications and campaigns, including the TNA Fall 2021 campaign for Aritzia. Elsesser also held the position of brand ambassador for Kenzo and is represented by IMG Models Worldwide.[5]
Elsesser identifies as non-binary and advocates for change within the LGBTQ+ community. She is dedicated to championing LGBTQ+ rights and promoting body positivity. In 2019, Elsesser and her sister, Paloma Elsesser, were featured in the UGG Life campaign for Autumn/Winter 2019. The campaign spotlighted intergenerational duos who provided mutual support, challenged conventions and served as sources of inspiration to one another as individuals.[6]
