AltGen[1] is a renewable energy and sustainability recruitment, consulting and employment services company that operates throughout Africa. The company is headquartered in Stellenbosch, South Africa, with two additional registered entities in Kenya and Mauritius. AltGen provides recruitment and executive search, employment services as well as renewable energy consulting and coaching services. Incorporated in 2012, the company has over 20 staff based in Africa.[2]

History

AltGen was incorporated in South Africa in 2012[3] by co-founders Sean and Priscilla Gibson. Services have ranged from assisting with utility-scale operations to formulating HR strategies as well as assisting graduates across Africa to find employment (see PAUWES Cohort). AltGen operates across both francophone and anglophone African countries primarily. AltGen Consulting Services arm was established in 2014 and began its first project assignment with a Socio-Economic Development Plan for a 75MW PV project on the West Coast of South Africa. In 2015, AltGen Employment Services (Pty) Ltd and AltGen LTD (Kenya) were incorporated followed by AltGen Energy Services LTD in Mauritius in 2017, to serve international clients operating throughout Africa.

Services

Recruitment and Executive Search

AltGen’s Recruitment division provides turnkey recruitment services to entities involved in executing renewable energy products and services. With an initial focus on the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) in South Africa in 2012, AltGen has provided services to large international EPCM’s, Developers, Engineering Consultancies and Asset Managers. Through the incorporation of AltGen LTD in Kenya, the company has subsequently recruited in both wind sectors and the C&I PV space, with an additional focus on off-grid and decentralized power production.

Employment Services

AltGen’s Employment Services provides business-to-business HR solutions, facilitating the entry of local and international engineering, sales and general services entities into the African energy and engineering markets by facilitating the fundamentals of in-country compliance and HR process systems. In instances where it is not possible to own the responsibility of employment, AltGen provides an outsourced employment service by aiding with the administration of employment and employee relationship management. In addition, AltGen has assisted REIPPPP operators with services to upskill their labour force. AltGen runs a Workforce Management Programme in Pofadder (Northern Cape, South Africa) with the intention of upskilling the local communities.

Renewable Energy Consulting

AltGen’s Consulting division provides data to organisations involved in policy and programme development for job creation initiatives within the climate mitigation sector. Client’s have included the Pan African University of Water and Science Technologies; the South African Department of Energy; the UNDP and other African Renewable Energy Associations.
