Alicja Gaskon ( born 1985 in Warsaw) is a New York-based, Polish-born visual artist. She is best known for works rooted in cartography, architecture and geopolitics.[1] The work is characterized by the use of a reduced palette and can be placed in the tradition of conceptual art and hard edge.[2]

Education

Gaskon studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (2005-2010) where she received her MFA in 2010.[3] She is also a graduate in Architecture from WSEiZ in Warsaw.

Themes

Gaskon studied both architecture and fine arts. Subsequently her focus around the concept of a line stands from her educational background. Gaskon in her research-based practice explores themes of identity and belonging, taking into account the philosophical, social and political dimension. Dividing lines and the specific connections that they create between people are a key point in her practice.[4] Gaskon works in a wide range of media - from painting and drawing, to sculpture, print and installation.[5]
