Alhaji Salamu Amadu (born May 3, 1987) is a Ghanaian businessman, philanthropist, and Peace and Development Ambassador.[1] He is the founder, CEO, and Board Chairman of Afro Arab Group, a conglomerate with interests in various sectors, including import and export, real estate, travel and tourism, microfinance, and sports.[2][3]

Early life and education

Alhaji Salamu Amadu was born in May 3rd, 1987, Maamobi, Accra. He's a Founder, CEO and Board Chairman of Afro Arab Group conglomerate.[4][5] Ambassador Alhaji Salamu is a peace and development Ambassador for empower[6]ing women and youth in (Zongo communities) deprived communities in Ghana and West Africa at large.[7][8][9] Alhaji Salamu, of the Hausa Fulani ethnic group and Zabarma group of which he serves as both Zabarma Youth Ambassador for Ghana and Zongo Youth Ambassador for all the over 3000 Zongo communities in Ghana, was born to Hajia Hawa Haruna and Alhaji Amadu Awuge of blessed memory who started black market bureau de change with his brother Alhaji Zakari at famous black market place at Maamobi. Ambassador Alhaji’s upbringing helped inspire the entrepreneurial spirit in him when he was ten years old, he used pocket money furnished by his father and brothers Alhaji Iddi Amadu also known as Alhaji lawi Small and Alhaji Yussif Amadu who all engage in the bureau de change business, Alhaji Small Lawi was the first boss of Ambassador Alhaji Salamu who trained him to become one of the rising star of the Zongo community.[10][11] Alhaji Salamu was raised in the Islamic faith and is a practicing Muslim. Alhaji Salamu hails from a polygamous family and is happily married with four children.

Business career

After completing Senior High School in 2004, He went back straight to business by establishing Elecafetelero Ghana that deals in livestock keeping, three years after the establishment of Elecafetelero, a new baby was born and name Afro-Arab Company Limited that deals in import and export of agriculture produce and metal scrubs in February 2007, followed by Afro-Arab Real Estate which is now Afro-Arab Properties & Construction, Afro-Arab Travel & Tour, Afro-Arab Microfinace, Pure Paints West Africa, Spartans Football Club and Yaa Salam Opportunity Center that serve as Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) Arm of the group.

Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu also known as Chairman Salam is ambitious and has demostraterated it in many occasions.[12][13][14] A Zongo boy who has not completed college has survive a Microfinance company in 2019, May 31, the Central Bank of Ghana has with immediate effect withdrawn the licenses of 347 licenses of a Microfinance institution in the country. These numbers (347) was made up of 192 insolvent Microfinance institutions and 155 Microfinance institution which were insolvent and ceased operations. Afro-Arab Microfinance survived and Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu was named the Banking and Finance personality of the year by 40 under 40 Ghana.[15][16]

Alhaji is a self-made millionaire who has achieved success through hard work, dedication, and a strong entrepreneurial spirit.[17][18][19] He has expanded Afro Arab Group into a diversified conglomerate with interests in a number of sectors. His businesses have created jobs and contributed to the economic development of Ghana.[20][21][22]

Philanthropy and Social initiative

Alhaji Salamu is well known for his humanitarian efforts.[23][24][25] On 12 August, 2023, he organised the International Youth Day celebration with the theme: The Future of The Zongo Youth with Yaa Salam Opportunity Center and gives over 2000 health insurance to the good people of Ayawaso North and free health screening. Alhaji is giving every child in both Ayawaso North and Ayawaso East free Health Insurance, 1 child 1 health insurance.[26][27] Yaa Salam Opportunity Center was incorporated for his philanthropic endeavours and a Cooperate Social Responsibility(CSR) Arm of the Afro-Arab Group, focused much effort on women and youth empowerment and making poverty a history in our various Zongo communities.

He has also contributed towards education, COVID-19 and many more. [28][29][30]

Alhaji is a generous philanthropist who is committed to helping others.[31] Through his Yaa Salam Opportunity Center, he provides educational and mentorship programs to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. He is also a strong advocate for women's empowerment and poverty alleviation.[32]

In 2018 Alhaji inaugurated the Afro-Arab Arena a 1000 seating capacity multi Purpose Stadium located behind the Afro Arab Group head office that serve several communities, Niima, Maamobi, Accra Town and Kokomlemle that brought the likes of Arsenal legend Nkwanku Kanu and his colleagues from Nigeria, Ghana Black Stars Former Assistant Coach Ibrahim Tanko, Mohammed Awal, Boxing Legend Azuma Nelson, Derrick Boateng of blacks and many more.[33][34]

One of the most ambitious projects that Alhaji is embarking on is to construct over 200,000 homes within 10 years for low and middle income earners, Alhaji believes housing is a human right and every Ghanaian deserves to own one, since you can rent a house, you can own a house, he introduce buy a house and pay in 5 years in Ghana Cedis with no interest every one can buy.

Honours and awards

Alhaji Salamu has received numerous awards and honours for his business success and philanthropic work.[35] In 2023, he was named the Banking and Finance Personality of the Year Africa by 40 under 40 Africa.[36] He has also been recognized as one of the 50 Most Influential Young Ghanaians, the Young CEO of the Year, and one of the 100 Most Influential Youth in Africa.[37][38]
