Bishop Alexei (Secular name Alexis Trader; Born February 24, 1965 in Dover, Delaware) is an American Hieromonk currently serving as Bishop of Sitka and Alaska. Alexei served as a Patristics Lecturer at the Monastery of Saint Tikhon for five years.
Early life
Alexei was born on February 24, 1965, in Dover, Delaware into a religious Christian family. He attended a Roman Catholic school as a child in Delaware.
Career
In 1990 Alexis started his monastic life at Saint Tikhon's Monastery. There, Alexis would become a lecturer of patristics. After teaching at the Monastery, He moved to the Monastery of Karakallou at the holy mountain of Mount Athos, Greece in 1995. While at Mount Athos he was ordained a deacon in 1996 and later into holy priesthood, becoming a Hieromonk in 2001.
In 2018 Alexei received an invitation to return to America by Metropolitan Tikhon, with the blessing of Abbot Archimandrite Philotheos. He returned to Saint Tikhon's Monastery as a residence and lecturer. On November 12, 2019, he was elected Bishop-elect of Bethesda and Auxiliary to the Metropolitan for Stavropegial Institutions by the Holy Synod of Bishops.[1] On March 15, 2022, Alexei was elected Bishop of Sitka and Alaska.[4]
