Alexander Dmitrievich Tertyshny (born January 3, 2000) is an American ice hockey defenseman currently playing for Stonehill College in the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA).[1] Alexander is the son of former NHL player Dmitri Tertyshny.
Early life
On July 23, 1999, Tertyshny's father, Dmitri Tertyshny, passed away in a boating accident.[2] Tertyshny was born 6 months later and raised in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by his mother, Polina Tertyshnaya.[3]
Playing career
Junior
After graduating from Choate Rosemary Hall in 2018, Tertyshny began his junior career with MHL side, Belye Medvedi. After a season and a half in Russia, he returned to North America to play for the Corpus Christi IceRays of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). After a short stint in Corpus Christi, Alexander was traded to the Northeast Generals. The following 2020-21 and final season of Tertyshny's junior career, he lead East Division Defensemen with 31 points, good enough for 7th in the league amongst defensemen. He was named East Division Defenseman of the Year and named to the All-Division Team.[4]
Collegiate
On October 11, 2019, Tertyshny committed to play collegiately at American International College for the 2021-22 season.[5] After sustaining an injury during training camp, Tertyshny missed the majority of his freshman season. The following year Tertyshny would enter the transfer portal and take a transfer year, opting to return home and take care of his ill mother. Tertyshny would eventually land at Stonehill College where he will play during the 2023-24 NCAA season. On July 2, 2023, Tertyshny took part in the Philadelphia Flyers development camp as an invite, dawning the jersey his father once wore.[6] Although not the typical NHL development camp invite, Tertyshny impressed Flyers President of Hockey Operations, Keith Jones (ice hockey).
