Alexa Sciuto (born February 21, 1996) is an American comedian, content creator, and activist. She performs stand up, improv and other forms of comedy in Baltimore, Maryland and surrounding states. [1] She is active on TikTok with 16,900 followers, as well as Instagram and Facebook where she produces comedic regional content as well as material related to social justice and education. She is vocally opposed to Moms for Liberty and frequently counters their efforts in to remove books and certain flags from schools in Maryland. [2] Her content was featured by Newsmax, Chaya Raichik, and in an article by Fox News and on The Big Sunday Show. As a career, Sciuto is a middle school Spanish Teacher.
Early life and Education
Sciuto grew up in Baltimore County, Maryland and attended Perry Hall High School. There, she began performing improv through the school's improv club. [3] After graduating, she started an improv club at The Community College of Baltimore County, where she also earned an asscociate of arts in teaching in Spanish. In 2017, Sciuto began doing stand up comedy in Baltimore. Sciuto transferred to Towson University and graduated with a bachelor of arts in Spanish in 2018, and went on to earn a master of arts in teaching secondary world language from Goucher College.
2018-Present
Sciuto is recognized for her contributions to improv and stand-up comedy in Baltimore and the surrounding areas. Her social media prominence began in 2018 when she joined TikTok, subsequently amassing 16,900 followers driven by videos that have attracted several million views. In 2022, her content faced scrutiny from LibsofTikTok, Newsmax, and Fox News. Subsequently, Baltimore County Public Schools board member, Maggie Litz Domanowski, wrote in a comment on a post about Sciuto in the official Facebook Group for the Baltimore County Moms for Liberty Chapter that the entire board of education was made aware of allegations that Sciuto “indoctrinated children.” This marked a pivotal moment in her career, though Sciuto was not fired or disciplined by Baltimore County Public Schools as a result of the backlash. Sciuto has since been an advocate against retaliation by school administrators and stochastic terror.
Sciuto acts as a moderator for the Facebook Group Maryland - Stop Moms for Liberty. Her activism also extends to attending, protesting, or speaking at board of education meetings and events by Moms for Liberty in Maryland and nearby states, where she promotes equity in education.
Trivia
Sciuto is a survivor of the Perry Hall High School Shooting in 2012. And was present as a faculty member when a bomb was found near Pine Grove Middle School. Both critical events were in Baltimore County Public Schools.[4]
