Alex Iantaffi (born 08 March 1971) is an author, independent scholar, licensed marriage and family therapist, and former editor-in-chief of the Journal of Sexual and Relationship Therapy.[1]. They have written a number of books on the topics of gender, sexuality, and disability including non-fiction books, Gender Trauma: Healing Cultural, Social, and Historical Gendered Trauma[2], and co-written Life Isn’t Binary: On Being Both, Beyond, and In-Between[3], How to Understand Your Sexuality: A Practical Guide for Exploring Who You Are[4], and How to Understand Your Gender: A Practical Guide for Exploring Who You Are[5], and Hell Yeah Self-Care!: A Trauma-Informed Workbook[6] with Meg-John Barker. They host a podcast called Gender Stories[7]
Iantaffi is co-founder of a group practice, Edges Wellness Center LLC[8], located on Dakota and Anishinaabe territories, currently known as Minneapolis, Minnesota. Iantaffi holds a PhD in Disability, Gender Studies, Higher Education, and Community Health from the University of Reading, and was Editor in Chief of the Journal of Sexual and Relationship Therapy[9] for over a decade, and is a psychotherapist and supervisor specializing in sex, gender, and relationships.

Early life and education
Iantaffi was born in Rome, Italy, on 08 March 1971, grew up in Rome, and earned a PhD[10] in Disability, Gender Studies, Higher Education, and Community Health from the University of Reading in 1999. They then attended the University of Bedfordshire and earned a M.Sc. Systemic Psychotherapy in 2006. From 2008-2010, they completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Sexual Health, HIV/STI Internet-based Research, LGBTQ Health Disparities, Transgender Youth, Sex and Relationship Therapy at University of Minnesota Program in Human Sexuality.
Recent career
Iantaffi's main areas of expertise include gender, sexuality, relationships, disability, trauma, mental health, and HIV. In 2016, Iantaffi co-founded Edges Wellness Center, a collective of practitioners striving to serve the MN and WI communities mental health and wellbeing through integrative approaches. Practitioners work from a trauma informed perspective with a focus on somatic and holistic approaches, including EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Seeking Safety and Dance and Movement Therapy.
Writing
Iantaffi has published books on gender, sexuality, self-care, and contributed chapters on gender, disability, kink, sadomasochism, and non-monogamy. They also host a podcast on gender.[11]
Therapy
Iantaffi is a certified sex therapist and member of the American Association of Sexuality Educators Counselors & Therapists (AASECT), a clinical member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), an At-Large Board member of the Minnesota Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and a clinical fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), as well as chair-elect of the AAMFT Queer and Trans Advocacy Network.
