Alex Hansen (born 4 December 1955 in Oslo) is a Norwegian physicist.[1] His main field of activity is within the physics of complex systems and flow in Porous medium.

Hansen got a Candidatus realium from the University of Oslo in 1981, where his supervisor for the master's thesis was Finn Ravndal. He then completed a Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1986. After several postdoctoral stays, including one at the École normale supérieure in Paris, Hansen completed his habilitation at the University of Rennes 1 in France in 1992. In 2009, at the same university, Hansen was awarded the degree Doctor honoris causa. Since 1994, Hansen has been working as a professor of physics at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

Alex Hansen was vice-president of IUPAP in the period 2011-2017.

From 2013, Alex Hansen is editor-in-chief of Frontiers in Physics.[2]

From 2017, Alex Hansen heads PoreLab, a Center of excellence.[3]
