Aleksi Perälä is a Finnish electronic music composer and producer[1][2]. He has made music since 1988[2], and performed it live since 1996. His music was first released on Rephlex in 1999 and is now released mostly on his own label, AP Musik.
Early life and education
Aleksi Perälä was born on July 30, 1976, in Vantaa, Finland.Perälä's exposure to electronic music on the radio played a pivotal role in his musical aspirations. Growing up in Finland, where electronic music was less common, he actively sought opportunities to explore the genre, such as recording electronic music from the radio[2].
A significant turning point in Aleksi Perälä's musical journey occurred when he discovered the work of Aphex Twin while studying as an exchange student in Michigan. The release of "Selected Ambient Works II" in 1994 deeply influenced Perälä, and he spent the following years sending demo tapes to Aphex Twin's label, Rephlex. In 1999, Rephlex released Perälä’s first full-length album, "Lactavent".
In 2005, he obtained a music technology degree from the College of Salpaus[1]. He spent ten years living in the UK but is currently based in Orimattila, southern Finland.

Colundi is a term referring to 128 sound frequencies discovered and curated by Rephlex co-founder Grant Wilson-Claridge. Perälä's prolific creative output has been a direct result of his experimentation with this unique system[4][3].
In 2021, Perälä received a two-year grant from the Kone Foundation, leading to a substantial volume of full-length albums released on a frequent bi-weekly or weekly basis. The grant's research focuses on additive synthesis while exploring various elements of world music. His work primarily involves sampling objects from his surroundings and replacing their harmonic overtones with colundi frequencies[5].
Notably, Aleksi's prolific output has led him to forgo conventional track titles in favour of using ISRC codes, a practical approach to managing the vast number of tracks he produces.
