Aleksi Nurminen (born July 8, 1992 in Riihimäki, Finland) is a Finnish MMA fighter and sports commentator.

Nurminen won the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) amateur world championship in 2014[1], after previously winning the Finnish championship in the same year. Both titles were achieved in the 77.1 kg weight class.

Nurminen also appeared[2] on the Finnish TV channel MTV3's X-Factor program during its second season in 2018 but was eliminated[3] in the third round of the competition. Nurminen performs rap music, and his first unofficial release appeared on the YouTube video platform in January 2017.

Nurminen also hosts his own podcast series called "LeksaREC[4]."

Career

After a successful amateur career, Nurminen turned semiprofessional in 2013, facing Mikko Ahmala, the Finnish Open champion. Nurminen lost the fight by majority decision under B-rules.

In his second B-rules fight, Nurminen faced Patrik Pietilä from Lahti and won the bout by unanimous decision.

Afterward, due to the B-rules fights, Nurminen returned to the amateur circuit.

In the spring of 2014, Nurminen won the Finnish championship[5], winning all three of his fights before the full time and defeating Kennet Mattsson in the final.

The World Championships[6] were held in Las Vegas as part of the International Fight Week event organized by the UFC at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.

Nurminen fought in four bouts within a week, and none of the fights went the full distance. He defeated[7] British fighter Josh McManus in the final by guillotine choke in the first round, at 1:03.

Upon returning to professional fights, Nurminen won three times before losing by decision to Danish fighter Søren Bak, who currently competes in Bellator and is a two-division champion in Cage Warriors.

After the loss, Nurminen had two victorious fights in the Cage organization, with the most recent bout taking place in November 2015.

Nurminen faced[8] Finnish UFC veteran Anton Kuivanen in a "super fight" under grappling rules at the Crest Professional Fighting Tournament event, which went into overtime, and Nurminen emerged as the winner.

Nurminen has not competed in MMA since 2015 and has experienced numerous health issues in recent years[9].

As a commentator

Nurminen began his career as a commentator in 2017, providing commentary for MMA national championships[10].

Since 2018, Nurminen has been commentating and serving as an expert analyst alongside Jani Rajalin in Cage events. Nurminen also commentates UFC events for Viaplay and Viasat, alongside Rajalin. He has also commentated Cage organization broadcasts in English for Fight Network and FITE TV, alongside Michael Majalahti.
