Alec Thomas Maxwell (born 1980) is a Filmmaker, British Creative Director and Merch dropper,[1] who has created films and content for Chanel, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Maybelline and Beats by Dre. Maxwell works under the alias KLOSS Films. Since 2018, Maxwell has been the Digital Creative Director-at-Large at British Vogue.[2] Maxwell is based in London.

Early Life

Born in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire in 1980, Maxwell was raised by parents Alec and Enid Maxwell, and has two sisters Kelly and Joanne. Maxwell was a shy yet creative child excelling at art in school.

Maxwell went on to study fashion design at Northumbria University earning a first class BA Hons in Fashion. During a work placement year, Maxwell interned with the British fashion designer Amanda Wakeley in London.

Career

After graduating university Maxwell continued to lecture at Northumbria University and worked as a designer at the fashion house Daniella Issa Helayel|Issa, where he designed pieces worn by Catherine, Princess of Wales, Beyoncé and adonna.

In 2009, Maxwell transitioned full time to a filmmaker, and began working under the alias KLOSS Films. Under KLOSS Films, Maxwell has created films for various fashion houses and titles including Dior, Fendi[3], Louis Vuitton, Stella McCartney, Vogue and I-D|i-D.[4] Most notably, KLOSS Films directed a film titled 'I Am An Immigrant' for W Magazine.[5] In 2018, the film received a Webby Award for public service and activism.[6]

In 2018, KLOSS Films was appointed Digital Creative Director-at-Large at British Vogue, where he directs on the creative content and programming for the publication, and for whom has created and directed films with Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, Oprah Winfrey, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Dame Judi Dench and Emma Watson.[7] Maxwell has played an integral role in the creative reinvention of content at British Vogue during his time there.

In 2019, KLOSS Films' work was featured on the cover of the December Issue of British Vogue - the cover and inside story featuring Lizzo[8] were shot as motion and still images from the film were used in the printed issue of the magazine.

On 7th July 2021, at 7pm (777) The Community Album was launched; a published collection of images taken by people all around the world with a KLOSS pop socket on their phone. Notable portraits in the album include; Irina Shayk, Juergen Teller, Maya Jama, Naomi Campbell, Kristen McMenamy and Edward Enninful,[9] as well as young creatives and models Ashley Tamuno-Burr, Sophia Hadjipanteli, Karanjee Gaba and Darkwah. 777 copies of the book were printed, and were made available through a curated number of specialist outlets including Bookmarc in New York and Tokyo, Browns, Farfetch, Cricket Fashion and Shreeji News in London[10]. To celebrate the launch of the book, Maxwell hosted a book signing at Shreeji News on London's Chiltern Street. An augmented reality version of the album was also released. The book release featured in ES Magazine.[11]

At the end of July 2021, KLOSS dropped its first merch collection of low waste and climate neutral pieces. The drop included a series of artist collaborations with Daniel Lismore, \Aweng Choul, Niki M’nray and Philip-Daniel Ducasse. The drop was sold exclusively in partnership with Browns and Farfetch, to mark the launch Maxwell hosted the first event to take place at the new Browns store on Brook Street in London.[12]

In 2022, Maxwell became Image Director at Liverpool based luxury retailer, Cricket. Responsible for all creative outputs, he oversaw the retailers entrance to e-commerce, gathering together key Cricket community members, such as Coleen Rooney, to celebrate the launch in a campaign video he directed.[13]

Personal Life

Maxwell lives in West London with his husband, Edward Enninful, and their dog, Ru Enninful.[14]

Maxwell is a keen supporter of creative talent from all walks of life, and dedicates much of his time to creating opportunities and mentoring creatives at the beginning of their careers.[15] He is a proud patron to the employability programme Shadow To Shine; an organisation founded by Becky Fatemi with a vision to inspire new pathways for the youth, ‘focused on young people aged 16-30 who face barriers, especially those from low socio-economic backgrounds in London and other inner cities, by allowing corporations and companies access to young people and talent'.[16]

On 22 February 2022, Maxwell married his long-term partner Edward Enninful at Longleat House in Wiltshire.[17]
