Aldrin Sojourner Gamayon (born September 1, 2002) is a Filipino student innovator and entrepreneur. He is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of AgriConnect PH, an agriculture technology startup that uses artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) devices to help rice farmers monitor crops and manage risks.[1] In December 2024, Gamayon became the first Filipino to win the Red Bull Basement global innovation competition, held in Tokyo, Japan.[2] He is currently a fourth-year BS Communications Technology Management student at the Ateneo de Manila University.[3]
Early life and education
Gamayon was born and raised in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte in northern Philippines. Coming from a rice-farming family, he witnessed firsthand the agricultural challenges faced by local communities, especially in the face of natural disasters. In 2021, he enrolled at Ateneo de Manila University on a full academic scholarship to pursue a degree in Communications Technology Management.[4]
In January 2024, Gamayon was selected for the National University of Singapore’s startup immersion program, known as the NUS Overseas Colleges. He was one of only seven Filipino students chosen. During his time in Singapore, he interned at Forte Biotech, a disease diagnostics startup for farmers, and was immersed in Asia’s innovation ecosystem.
Career
Gamayon’s startup experience began during his internship at Forte Biotech, where he worked on business development for disease detection kits in Southeast Asia. After returning from Singapore in mid-2024, Gamayon founded AgriConnect PH. In October 2024, his startup idea won the national leg of the Red Bull Basement competition in the Philippines, earning him the opportunity to represent the country at the global finals in Tokyo.[5] On December 5, 2024, Gamayon was named the Global Winner of Red Bull Basement 2024, defeating student innovators from 39 other countries. He was the first Filipino to win this title.
Following the win, he was invited to join the Plug and Play Tech Center’s 2025 summer cohort in Silicon Valley and was featured in international media such as Fast Company, GMA, ABS-CBN, and The Manila Times.[6]
AgriConnect PH
AgriConnect PH is an agri-tech startup founded by Gamayon in 2024. It provides AI-powered insights to rice farmers through real-time risk alerts on pest outbreaks, water scarcity, and extreme weather conditions. The system uses IoT sensors deployed in fields, which transmit environmental data to a cloud-based dashboard analyzed by AI. Farmers receive alerts via a color-coded "stoplight" system: green (normal), yellow (caution), and red (high risk), helping them respond proactively.[1]
As of 2025, the app is undergoing MVP developed and is backed by partnerships with Microsoft and AMD. AgriConnect aims to help one million farmers by 2035.[7]
International engagements
In February 2025, Gamayon won the Global Award at the EMC Global Startup Pitch hosted by Musashino University in Tokyo, Japan.[8]
In April 2025, he was selected as one of 30 global delegates to the ASES Stanford Summit 2025 held at Stanford University. During the summit’s 24-hour startup challenge, he co-created "SalesRx," an AI-powered sales tool for regulated healthcare industries. The team won the final pitch competition.[9]
He also participated in the Bangkok Business Challenge (Top 20 global semi-finalists, TBD), the Emerging Giants Summit 2024 in Sydney (1st runner-up), and joined the Plug and Play Tech Center in Silicon Valley as part of the summer accelerator program.
