Alan B. Wachtel, MD (born 1946) is a board-certified American psychiatrist[1], psycho-pharmacologist , lecturer, author, who specializes in diagnosing and treating attentional, behavioral, depression, anxiety and mood disorders throughout the life cycle.[2]He frequently appears in various publications, television, and radio programs as a knowledgeable figure in these fields. Additionally, he delivers extensive lectures to professional organizations and parent groups.[3]

Dr. Wachtel is the Founder and Director of Familyhealth Associates, a private practice with offices in White Plains, NY and New York, New York, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of attention, behavior, depression, anxiety, mood and learning disorders. The practice uses a holistic/biopsychosocial approach to diagnosing and treating children, adolescents, adults and families by psychiatrists, neuropsychologists, clinical psychologists, clinical social workers and executive functioning coaches, to address the physical, social and emotional well-being of the individual and their family. He is also the President of Familyhealth Foundation, a not-for-profit foundation dedicated to public education and research on certain psychiatric disorders.

Dr. Wachtel's approach to ADHD focuses on an exacting evaluation, diagnosis and multi-disciplinary treatment plan as detailed in his book, "The Attention Deficit Answer Book: The Best Medications and Parenting Strategies for Your Child.'[4]

Personal life

Dr. Wachtel and Ellen Miller-Wachtel have been married for over 40 years, have three children and three grandchildren. They live in New York. Alan Wachtel's father, Harry Wachtel, was a lawyer most known for his work with Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. Wachtel spent a lot of time with King over the years and describes him as a deeply caring individual who had a genuine interest in connecting with people from all walks of life.[5][6]
