The AirBrush is a photo-enhancing and editing tool available on iOS and Android devices, and can be used through a web-based interface. The AirBrush allows photo-editing such as enhancing portraits, making adjustments to the skin such as blemish removal, teeth whitening, and filters to enhance the overall look of the photo. Originally released as a mobile application[1][2], the AirBrush tool is now available on desktop version for both Windows and macOS users.[3][4][5]

The image-enhancing too, AirBrush, has been mentioned in multiple independent technology media outlets, including XatakaMovil, Infobae, Canaltech, TechTudo, and Android Authority, in lists of notable mobile photo-editing applications.[6] [7] [8][9]According to Sensor Tower data reported by TechCrunch, the Airbrush tool was ranked 49th among the top 50 generative AI mobile apps by monthly active users. [10]It has appeared in consumer app roundups, such as a Yahoo Tech article on iPhone photo editors.[1] In 2018, the Arabic edition of Al Jazeera included AirBrush in a roundup of five mobile photo-editing applications for personal photos used by consumers for easy and personal photo-editing.[11]

History

Airbrush was launched in 2015 as a mobile photo-editing application. The product is developed by Pixocial Technology, a Singapore-based company that operates as a subsidiary of Meitu, Inc., focusing on international markets.[12] In 2025, Pixocial announced the release of Airbrush Studio, a desktop portrait-editing application available for Windows and macOS.[5]

Funding

In 2023, Pixocial Technology completed a Series A financing round of approximately US$22 million, with participation from external investors including Eight Roads, while Meitu retained a stake in the company. The funding was reported to support the company’s international operations and product development efforts.[12]

Features

Airbrush has a simple and clear user interface. According to Deutsche Welle, the app is available free of charge for Android and iOS devices. Users are required to register using e-mail, Facebook, or Google before use.[13] Many of its editing tools are designed specifically for selfies.

The tool provides both automated and manual editing features and enhancements, including skin smoothing, blemish removal, background editing, object removal, and other portrait enhancement tools.[14] According to Android Headlines, It also includes background removal functions as part of its suite of portrait-editing tools.[15]

Airbrush allows users to adjust their appearance before capturing a photo. The tool also provides cosmetic effects, including virtual blush and mascara to simulate makeup and have multiple makeup touch-up options to choose from. While some of the basic features are free, other additional features are also available as in-app purchases and subscription in mobile application and web services.[3][4][16][17] The edited images can be directly shared on social media platforms from within the app.[13]

Independent reviews describe Airbrush as user-friendly, allowing one-click editing, and primarily used by casual users and social media creators. However, Some reviewers note that it offers limited features than other professional desktop photo-editing softwares.[14] User reviews on platforms such as Capterra reflect a range of experiences, citing ease of use as well as technical and subscription-related concerns.[18] According to Deutsche Welle, the app includes extensive beautification tools, which may influence idealized images.
